@7 Exactly. And so they won’t bother for this “stain” for in their deranged minds – it’s not a “stain” but a “badge of honor”.
When Nazi germany was defeated, the allies established a strategy to de-nazify it’s population. I am afraid the US would need an even stronger version of such a program because ultimatly Hitler ruled about 12 years, where he had to establish his propaganda machine – convincing people of his cause, making him out better than he was, hiding his crimes.
The rightwing propaganda machine in the USA is much older, technology has advanced to give them countless creeks to hide and plot behind fake accounts in social media and their crimes and lies can happen in broad daylight without consequences. We are dealing with a cult that has amassed massive power – something like a “stain” doesn’t mean anything for a party not batting an eye and 350k avoidable deaths just from COVID19 alone.

@7 If only… but no, many of them are “only” delusional, trapped in a tight net of propaganda and lies… while germany had it’s “werwolfs”, people who during the final days of the war went around killing their fellow germans if they considered surrender, the vast majority of people lacks the violent personality to go to such lengths without outside pressure. Yet they might support those as well…
I think the Borat-Movie touched on them and how we might benefit from a more progressive general attitude as well.
It’s hard to say, really. We would need to get rid of their cult-leaders. Not just Trump, but a lot of high figures in the GOP including those who openly support sedition right now. But also of other influential cultists like the evangelicals in their mega churches and FOX. If we don’t pass laws to limit their abilities to spread lies and conspiracies, this will result in the fall of the empire that got drunk on it’s own hybris.
I really hope Biden/Harris can get the Senate and work on legislation, a way to avoid this. But I fear time is running short and there is no quick and easy fix… but I don’t see a good outcome in a world where the US turns into a failed state, as long as the alternatives are actual dictatorships like China and Russia.
@Shuizid I think regulation around free speech as it concerns major figures in our digital communication age makes sense. At the point at which you reach millions and millions of people you should not be able to definitively lie and mislead them for your own personal benefit at their utter expense. At the very least for example there should be some consequences for telling people to drink bleach as a cure #letsstartthere
