They ask for volunteers. In the UK there is a website you can register on to enrol in this programme. There may or may not be financial renumeration for taking part in these trials.

I think 32 vaccines are being tested on humans worldwide now – mostly in Europe. It might help somewhat but it can’t really be done on whole populations. I think Americans might still just have to behave and follow the simple guidelines the rest of the world is following – hard as it may be for you.

A new insight (new to me anyway). Virus testing to date seeks to answer the question on whether a person has the virus or not. According to a Harvard epidemiologist this is the wrong question. Quicker, cheaper tests are sensitive enough to detect high viral loads. Apparently low viral loads are not infectious. Current U.S. tests are very sensitive, retail at about $100 and take days for results. Cheap, less sensitive tests cost about $1 and get results in 10 minutes. It could be a total game changer. @pdjhh I’ve heard the same. What is exciting to me about the video I linked above is the hypothesis that daily testing with a cheap test that is “good enough” could reduce R0 (“R-naught” in epidemiologist-speak) below one, which means we could fairly quickly contain the virus.
