There will be approximately 10,000 fewer teachers in Ontario schools over the next five years, province's fiscal watchdog reports.

grew up with larger classes and had no problem.
Scott Cook – most kids will be ok but the concern is the minority that won’t. There are those with varying degrees of learning disabilities who might not get the attention they need soon enough. Larger class sizes does not necessarily mean that neglect will occur but it would be reassuring to know that there is system in place provide aid. Premier Ford’s treatment of children with Autism doesn’t help put minds at ease.
Cuts ,and increased class size ! Oh my the schools will be a wild jungle! , With less teachers around !….,also
What about children , with a host of different problems ,that teacher’s could assist!?.
Less teachers means less social programs. Wanna play sports or be in a math club? Too bad, find a private school and pay up.
More kids are gonna spend all their time with their face in their phones.
Why do parents allow kids to have their faces in their phones? Parents are responsible for their own children!
Oh my what’s next are they going to start failing kids and hurt there feelings. So many teacher just push kids through, I also believe that many teachers think that it is their job to teach kids what to think not how to think. The kids will be ok
Ford was elected to tackle our province’s out of control spending. Every department must find ways to cut expenses. I can think of the many teacher conferences that could be cut. These are just days off for the teachers and amount to nothing. If the teachers really think they need these conference days they would agree to have them during the summer months. I bet my last dollar that that would not happen.
Teachers don’t like conferences… It’s insisted on by Principals and vocal parents!
Go ask McGuinty and Wynne where all the money went. Everyone knew the Piper would be paid one day. Then talk to our federal government about how foreign aid and mass illegal immigration has helped education.
Shut down the left wing indoctrination centres.
1) Ontario has four times the per capita debt of California. California is generally considered to be a financial basket case. What does that make Ontario? So does Ontario simply continue spending itself into oblivion? If so, then it will end in a state of crisis with even deeper education problems. 2) The province of Quebec has larger classes than Ontario, yet over the last decade or so their math scores have steadily increased while Ontario’s have steadily decreased. There is now a substantial gap. Simply throwing money at education didn’t produce that positive outcome in Quebec and didn’t avoid the negative outcome in Ontario. 3) The story title biases the reported fact which was a calculation based on a prospective accounting not on actual losses of existing positions which is how the title makes it sound. 4) Why is a supposedly impartial civil servant offering political advice? i.e. “contact your mla if ….”.
for these students in a few year they will be in college or university where class sizes are huge compared to high school. most courses are online now as well
@Erik where i live they are
@Bob Lazar then they aren’t in most of the province. And, a large % of students would suffer in online Classes. Only university level students could possibly benefit.
@Erik that’s just your opinion, not a fact
@Erik How are only university students the only ones able to handle large class sizes?
@Bob Lazar have you seen the dropout rate for first years in Universities? The marks stay fine on average for the whole uni because students who can’t handle it, leave to college or the workplace, or change their program. It’s really that simple. University marketing materials boast of lower class sizes and show off small programs as a competitive advantage. Mental health in university is a priority. Almost all campuses offer free or reduced price mental health services of some kind, and have student centres flooded with programs and classes on how to handle the different aspects of university. High schools and elementary schools don’t have any of that. If they’re lucky, a nurse stops by once a week. A child and youth worker, varies wildly. Tens of thousands of students deal with special needs, even more live with separated and divorced parents, often without anyone outside of schools or in school to talk with, to understand them and support them. EA’s are being cut consistently under both liberal and Conservative governments. There’s a mental health crisis in Ontario, with teen suicide rates skyrocketing, especially among LGBTQ+ and other minorities.
The school system isn’t prepared for the surge of complex students and issues. Raising class sizes make it harder for teachers to control their classes, and conference with them one on one, especially for students who need individual attention.
Can’t. Loose a job that never existed ……… it’s not a lost job the job was never there get lost !!!! You want to live in Toronto this is what happens low tax brackets get low services
Oh no! parents are now going to have to get involved in their children’s education.
Ai and computers , what as blessing?? NOT. Beast system
Love it.
I bet the children grow up smarter because of less teacher input.
so let me get this straight, 10,000 jobs are not being cut their just not being created.
This is a sad Headline. No jobs lost just no jobs added Class increase from 22 kids to 28 kids. Saving 2.8 Billion for Tax payers.
So what, Ont is broke, wake up. Why don’t you do some real reporting on racist Trudeau or something instead of letting the Americans break the story.
Doug the thug at it again!
With Computers classes are to brainwash and indoctrinate only, the less Leftwing Teachers have to do with the children the better.
Teachers are obsolete ! Kids are on their cell phone and computer !
