@Call Me Ishmael well that’s 530 additional ICU patients on top of, for lack of a better word, typical icu traffic. Common sense should tell you that number puts a strain on the health care system. Particularly in hot spots where doctors are evaluating patients to see which patients need the last space in the ICU more. Alberta’s system is so strained they’re talking about bringing in field hospitals. So I disagree completely that flat totals mean nothing. The higher the number, the greater the strain on the system.

@Michael E. Ah, yes, the long-term health effect scare tactic. Let me know when you can point to published, peer-reviewed studies demonstrating that such long-term effects occur at a greater rate and at greater severity than the long-term effects caused by influenza.

Kenney UCP attempted a compromise with some restrictions but not a full lockdown. But with well more than 1,000 a new cases per day in the province, increasing numbers of covid patients in hospitals and ICUs, and them inquiring about field hospitals this compromise was not tough enough in fighting covid spread.
whats the matter with Alberta? Is it scary cases? For months now the cases were surging!! Scary stuff! More testing then in april with even more cases!!! Oh my!!!!! But about those deaths, not really happening

Patients staying in the hospitals treating whatever conditions, once they got a + result from the faulty PCR test, it is counted as a COVID hospitalization.

The PCR methodology IS pretty inaccurate
It returns a 20% false NEGATIVE (some report 30% when tester errors are included)
So…a positive result is significant…but a negative result…is pretty meaningless
@not likely the percentage positive is low, like 3 out of 100 tests turned out to be positive in Ontario. It means out of 100 tests, 97 negative results have a certain chance to turn into a false positive. And only 3 positive results have a chance to turn false negative. Therefore false positives become more influential in creating a false reality of the pandemic than false negative.

Conservatives in Alberta have dropped the ball at maintaining health infrastructure. Hospital infrastructure is crumbling and still largely controlled by the Catholic Church through Covenant. Hospitals like Miseracordia are literally falling down while the provincial mental health facilities are moldy, rat infested hell holes. This crisis reveals the chronic capacity shortage and the consequences of concentration of specialties at only one facility. Covid outbreaks have resulted in outrageous delays in critical treatment. Thanks to Kenney & his predecessors.

The three older hospitals have had complete make overs in the 10 years in Calgary. Plus the new children’s hospital. And calgay south is also new.
And the oldest one we had was taken down years ago.
