On Minimum Wage And GOP Freak-Outs, Biden Can Draw On Lessons From Obama Era | Rachel Maddow | MSNBC
How so many of my fellow working class Americans believe Republicans are the party of the working class is astounding.
@Ash Roskell biden is releasing them into america and asking them to show up to court theres a reason he stopped the wall he wants them to get here i have no problem with any race coming here and having the american dream but i will not agree with finding ways to get them here a racist thinks there better then somebody for there color, religion ect im no better then anybody i actually believe we are all equal some might do better in somethings but dosnt make them better if i was racist wouldnt i think im better then somebody because of there race? Theres many minorities that do better then me and that dosnt bother me because they did the work to get there
@michigan trapper : It was complicated, but talk of, “minimum wages,” never came up,in my business, because we all earned far more than that. Not everyone was an, “employee,” either, but was rather hired to do stuff for me, in their own way, and the leave. I just paid what we agreed the job/s were worth. I did take on two interns who were paid by their universities, years ago. But, their income was so risible, I just made up their money, tax free. “A workman is worth his hire.” Happy bunnies, with loyalty and friendship will lift Heaven & Earth to do a good job for you, and their financial problems don’t just effect their mood and productivity, but their time keeping, and a host of other issues. It’s actually cheaper to pay someone well, I found, so they didn’t have to scramble about for carers for their kids, worry about healthcare issues, use public transport, and so on. It just makes sound business sense, if you want to get wealthy, anyway? Some people say they want to be rich, but deep down, they know what responsibilities they will incur, and other complications. Really, they’re happier with their mom and pop operations . . . True story
@Ash Roskell either way shouldnt you pay everybody that does work/a job for you get a living wage not talking the ones that get paid more then minimum wage you sound like a hypocrite saying people deserve a living wage then you not do that for everybody no matter the job then you say the rich should pay more in taxes yet you proudly say you dodge taxes legally your going against what your saying you believe should happen you enjoy what republicans give you tax breaks/not having to pay everybody 15+ hr ect
How so many of my fellow Americans believe there is some substantial, legitimate difference between the “two” political parties that are bought and paid for by the same corporations, and whose congressional members vote in line with one another on most legislation, is astounding to me as well.
@michigan trapper whatever
Sadly, people on Fixed Income are screwed! Utility Bills go up, and they go without!
Having tons of money in the bank doesn’t really make you happy but not making enough to support you family makes life harder then it has to be.
Having so much money that you don’t know what to do with it likely leads to anxiety and paranoia in some people. Another good reason why progressive taxation would remove SO MUCH societal anguish and misery, if implemented with accountability and transparency. Not ranting, just sayin’. 🤷♂️ Source: Spent the first half of my life in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, and got everything for free, including my entire university degree. There are still plenty of other things to worry about even when the risk of abject poverty is not one of them.
@Kenster : That’s it, right there. A rising tide lifts all ships, but the GOP propagates a myth of, “scarcity,” and literally promotes that, “paranoia,” of which you spoke, so rightly. Only, they get it going among the poor and wealthy alike: a conspiracy of poverty. Take Healthcare? The very rich don’t want to pay extra taxes, and the very poor FEAR being taxed, when many of them don’t have health insurance at all. So, they conspire politically, and the rich will pay (ironically huge sums of money) on adverts putting the fear of God into the poor, so they vote together, leaving the educated middle classes in the minority. The whole GOP (economic) outlook is, “If my neighbour prospers, they’re taking MY resources from me.” When simple fact, science and logic has already PROVED them wrong, that doesn’t matter, because GOP politics appeals to the crocodile brain, the fight or flight instincts. It’s all emotion, anger, fear and hysteria with them, and it works. Fascism is emotions, and anti-intellectual for that very reason. ✌️👍
@Ash Roskell I think a lot of that boils down to a lack of [access to] quality basic education. And maybe also a lack of social cohesion and empathy – which is a vague thing, but one that can and should be taught, certainly at police academies. And those knee-jerk emotions that you mention that make millions of unaware (uneducated) Americans vulnerable to getting sucked into neofascist cult-like movements, those emotions are totally human. It’s a real pity that so many so-called working poor can so easily be conned into voting against their own interests and against the interests of their loved ones! There’s lots of short mini-documentaries right here on youtube that do an excellent job explaining those dynamics and some basic concepts in political science and sociology, including comparing different taxation models in simple language. Aaaaaaaanyway, fingers crossed for better times just around the corner, as the older generation of white supremacists retire/pass away. 🙂
@Kenster : We have to keep busy and work at that, but yeah . . . 🤞✌️
@Kenster You can lead that horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. A large segment of our population has the Dunning-Kruger effect (Trump and his kids are the poster people for this. They refuse to learn, refuse to improve their lot in life while wallowing in the self made drama and blaming everything and everyone else for their own mistakes. You can’t fix stupid and the stupid keep reproducing like rabbits.
brilliantly said, ty both.
John boehner does not look happy about that
yeah i noticed that stank face
I’m ready for a morale boost .
I see Rachel Maddow and I immediately click
Wow… Is that what a coherent president sounds like?
Tax billionaires please. The one that owns these media groups.
pro trick : watch movies on Flixzone. Been using them for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.
@Terry Theriot Yea, I have been watching on Flixzone for since november myself 😀
And just think about the fact that in Australia the minimum wage is almost $19:84 an hour, & they also have Universal health care, just imagine what the most powerful country in the world could do with those 2 things, Rj in Oz
@Rj Nation God bless you bro
@REAL BLACKS KNOW THE TRUTH Nonsense, Australia’s health system existed long before the relatively recent gun laws and gun crime dropped dramatically after the government buy back of semi-automatic and assault guns.
just another “troll “ here, all Americans and the world watched the coup attempt on JAN 6/2021 by then President Trump who watched it on TV while it was going on and didn’t take any act to STOP the RIOT for a few hours until Americans were killed….so Biden will continue to work on important things like minimum wage, health care, gun regulations and more for ALL Americans and we will watch the GOP just watch…
@REAL BLACKS KNOW THE TRUTH You went off the rails there 😂
@Christophe L. I AGREE!!!!
👍
10$ and hour is still prty much poverty but instead of 1 pack of ramen you can afford to add something to it.
There are so many opportunities to make money these days, nobody has to settle for just their minimal wage income.
@Dis Approve many of us don’t live in rural towns like you yeeyees, in a city or modernize town rent isn’t 500-800 bucks it’s usually 1k+ for 1-2 bedroom/bathroom. That’s literally one job there and another job to keep up food and bills, that’s the reality for most people working 1-2 jobs
Water?
So what happens to Seniors who don’t make 1500.00 a month? Most fall around 800.00 poverty level. During Obama they didn’t receive COLA. During Trump $1.00 COLA. Food and everything else will go up in price.
I understand this is for Federal Employees but mark my words inflation will kick in.
Also for those Contractors they will be put in a new income tax bracket. In the long run …. No raise. Typical smoke and mirrors.
@R D Us country folk live where we do because we can afford it. City dwellers on the other hand expect everyone else to help you pay your bills.
Why doesn’t anybody highlight the hourly rate that is paid to the politicians that are blocking the $15.00 minimum wage?
You referring GOP slacks on wage sir 🤡
You can Google their salary but all the businesses they collect from, including lobby bribes takes a little research.
It’s against the constitution apparently
@John Mags In Australia politicians wages are a matter of public record.
AROTFLMFAO! the look on John Boehner’s face is quite telling and frankly priceless.
I wonder just how drunk Boehner was during that clip?
Hi Rachel Anne.👋🍺.
I wonder why they when Banana because they don’t want poor people have progress in their life
Interesting observations.
“Commander-in-Chef” – lol.
I think WE ALL would be highly grateful to receive a $15 dollar an hour raise… I know I would! Who turns down a raise smh…
