Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed a bill into law that makes it easier for teachers and staff to carry guns on school premises. CNN’s Victor Blackwell talks to the President of the Ohio Federation for Teachers about why this bill could pose potential dangerous consequences. #CNN #News
Well Governor, the NRA wishes to thank you profusely for your effort in increasing gun sales in Ohio, nevermind the side effects of potentially increasing mortality rates among school children. At least we have thoughts and prayers to fall back on
@Gulliver the Gullible oh, man! Your comments…
None of these officials put into consideration how safe ,the kids will feel about teachers with guns , kids better not piss off their teachers
My image is reverse. What about the kids over powering or distracting the teacher so the gun ends up in their hands.
They reduced the training for teachers to carry guns from 700 hours to 24 hours?! Did I hear that right?
The same idiots that are appalled by this probably think law enforcement gets more than 700 hrs of training 🤣
now you don’t have to wait till 18 to buy a gun, just take the teacher’s
@Sherman Dudley
Yes. I trust good people, who are adults, and have training, to own a firearm. lol
It’s called America.
@Sherman Dudley
To handle handgun? lol
Sure. Plus I would argue that many, (possibly the majority) of these teachers who volunteer to do this, are gun owners (and possibly some vets). The will probably bring their own personal firearms. So, yes, 3 full days of training? For a little 9mm or .380? That’s plenty.
It’s neither fair nor intelligent to ask the teachers or other school employees to play cowboys. It’s not what they are trained for, it’s not their job; security is not and cannot be their responsibility.
Right..100%…
Teaching Students will now be required Classroom Psychologie and Target Training?????
It is optional for teachers but that makes me feel even worse…. what kind of egotistical teacher would trust themselves that much with a gun around children every day, let alone in a high stress situation. The ones who will want to carry are very likely the ones I wouldn’t want to carry
I live in Ohio and I want my child’s teacher to TEACH! Not act out a scene from the wild Wild West 😩 like how oblivious is our governor to think this is a good idea? So not only is the teacher UNDER PAID to teach, he/she now also has to play the armed security guard in the process all while trying to keep the children calm if a HOME GROWN TERRORIST decides to enter the school with an AR15……What sense does this make..?? Republicans do ANYTHING except address the REAL issue at hand…it’s so frustrating then these government officials are completely STUPID
@Faux Que yeah, precisely what we saw in Uvalde. Nice try.
You are given the responsibilities of a security guard while being paid the salary of a janitor.
How is that going to work?
@John Smith You know nothing about guns and it shows, gain some knowledge and then maybe you would have the self confidence to go by your real name.
How many of the students in Uvalde bled out and died while they waited for people outside the building to come in with their guns and neutralize the threat? You don’t think guns inside of that school might have a) dissuaded the shooter OR b) been capable of reducing the threat and saved the lives of some children?
The police union disagrees with it. The people who have dedicated their lives to protect us. But their voice doesn’t matter when it comes to helping them do their jobs. It’s disgusting.
When minutes count call a cop. When seconds count you’re on your own.
The only voice that matters apparently is the NRA
@Faux Que Or it takes 45-60 minutes for the police to respond.
@Victor Pradha
Ten people firing back at the shooter is better than none.
I’m assuming the governor’s never heard of workplace violence. My question is, if one of these teachers decide to use that gun at school because they’re at the end of their rope, will he attend the funerals of the victims that he caused?
Fight->https://youtu.be/YvRuOylYDtk
I’m going with “No. He will not”.
That is my final answer.
Well of course how cold blooded would that be. To not show up to all the funerals that teacher caused wow. Just an FYI Republicans are completely insane so I wouldn’t expect anything less.
@Michael Wachendorf well he might show up to the teacher’s to applaud her exercise of her 2nd Amendment Rights.
Those NRA “endorsements” sure pay for a lot of “thoughts and prayers” from the GOP chantry.
This guy is clueless. I tell you right now, it’s going to lead to some student killing another by accident.
Teachers don’t get paid enough as is but now they want them to be armed guards!
Fight->https://youtu.be/YvRuOylYDtk
It’s their right as an American to be as well armed as they feel comfortable with.
Why would one not also do their very best to protect anyone around them.
Yes you’re right bout that…I’m Gerald but you can call me Gerry.. Hope you don’t mind if I get to know you friend
How about reducing the years required to become a physician from 4 years of med school, 3 + years of residency to a year? No? Exactly. This is ridiculous.

This straw man argument isn’t scaring many crows….
@Alfred Harrington I understood. Complex thinking is for adults.
@William Springer crow man none.
Im sure then he would agree then that it should be *way* easier to carry guns in the governor’s mansion—including for members of the public at large and especially no background checks for anyone.
Let him test his theories on himself and his house first.
Yeah too bad he’s not a congress member, we should agree that anyone can go in and open carry in the capitol but you know “peacefully”. 😒 these people are insane! People need to start homeschooling their kids.

She seems like she can’t protect herself.
24 hours of training for an armed teacher to face a shooter with an assault rifle dressed in body armor. What a massively stupid idea.
It’s called a HEAD-SHOT! Normal people with moderate gun skills can neutralize a threat pretty quick.
This is how politicians go from bad decisions to worse decisions.
Last fight https://youtu.be/3RVEXAp6PuU
@Kenneth Wright “a good guy with a gun cannot stop a bad guy with an ar15″….is that what you are referring to?
@emort6 and when the teacher has a meltdown and starts to shoot, wo is stopping him/her?
The police officers in Uvalde were too scared to do their job, what the hell makes anyone think underpaid teachers with guns are the answer
Required training to have gun is unconstitutional. 24 hrs is too much.
Because if a shooter enters a classroom the teacher has a voice to stop it and prevent the killing of students and herself or himself, or just sit there and be killed along with other people’s children. What would you do?
I’m glad I’ve already graduated, my teachers were “ok” teachers but I wouldn’t trust any of them with a gun in the class room. Heck my teachers were scared of the students.

If we knew our fourth grade teacher had a gun hidden in the classroom, we would have found it. And, I suspect that we were not unique

“You won’t teach kids appropriate things without us _outlawing everything else,_ but here’s a _gun_ to keep in your classroom so you can shoot at someone who _you judge to be_ the bad guy in an active shooter situation.”
*Makes total sense.* 🙄
@Gulliver the Gullible what about all of the other “good guys with guns”? Do they just wear signs around their necks so everybody knows who _not_ to shoot at? Active shooter situations are chaotic and confusing. It’s often difficult to know where the shooting is coming from. So if you add more people pointing & even shooting guns to this equation, it just adds a lot more chaos and a lot more confusion, along with the strong likelihood of additional deaths due to friendly fire.
@Katy Sue Who so you’re a pro on active shooters now?
@Katy Sue Who have you ever been driving along, over the speed limit and all of a sudden traffic slows down and you see the cop with a radar gun? Imagine if there were signs saying “speed limit free zone”? How fast would people be driving?
Same principle here…if a gunman knows there are armed people in a school, or grocery store, or church, they are far less likely to target that place. Think past GUNS ARE BAD and remember, far more guns save lives than kill people.
Katy Sue Who * People often tell when a bad guy is in the school, the cowardly bad guy is carrying a weapon visible to the public, dressed in combat clothing, and fires his weapon first according to stats.
@Phillippa C. where on earth did you get “guns are bad” from _anything_ that I’ve said? I’m a gun owner, I was raised around guns, my kids have been learning how to use guns properly & safely by going to the practice range with their dad since they were about 10. I DON’T hate guns.
My point has ALWAYS been that *TEACHERS SHOULD JUST BE TEACHERS.* THEY SHOULDN’T BE PUT INTO A POSITION WHERE THEY’RE _TERRIFIED_ AND _POINTING A GUN AT OTHER PEOPLE, READY TO KILL,_ WHEN *THAT’S NOT THEIR ROLE,* AND WHEN *THEY AREN’T RECEIVING INTENSE ONGOING TRAINING, LIKE THE COPS GET.* IT JUST MAKES THEM _MORE_ LIKELY TO BE _SHOT BY THE COPS,_ OR BY ANOTHER _ARMED TEACHER WHO CAN’T SEE THEM PERFECTLY WELL, OR WHO SIMPLY PANICKED._
So Phillippa, do I believe that guns are bad? OF COURSE NOT. *I’m not anti-gun, I’m anti-stupid & reckless ideas. I’m pro-firearm safety best practices.* And telling teachers to bring guns to school so they can be the one to shoot the bad guy is _not best practice._ It is _not safe- not for the kids, not for the teachers, not for the cops, who could also accidentally get shot by one of our scared, armed teachers._
_• _*_THIS ISN’T A SOLUTION_*_ •_
OK. I’m not opposed to a person (trained) to carry for self protection, but this is insane. Being able to fire a gun at a paper target or even to shoot someone who’s directly attacking you is a quite different situation than an active mass shooter in a school or in public. It’s not the gun that saves lives; It’s the training.
A lot of that training really hinges on the gun.
And it takes less training than you would believe.
So you think it’s insane that anyone besides you gets to carry a gun? Training is necessary but excessive Training is not.
@emort6 I’m not trained. I don’t carry.
@Sad to the Bone So you’re not speaking from experience, point taken.
