The Government of Dominica has decided that Mr. Kelleb John Laurent will be given an official funeral on Wednesday, May 12th 2010. The Government has declared a day of mourning next Wednesday as a mark of respect for the late Mr. Kelleb Laurent, former Member of the House of Assembly and cricketer.
The Dominican Flag shall be flown at half staff on all public buildings in the State on the day of the funeral- Wednesday, May 12, 2010.
Mr. Kelleb Laurent won the St. Joseph constituency in the July 1980 General Elections and was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Health and Youth Affairs in the Freedom Party Government led by the then Prime Minister, Miss Mary Eugenia Charles.
Described by many as one of the finest off-spinners the Caribbean has produced, Kelleb Laurent played cricket for Dominica and Combined Islands in the 1960s and 70s..
Kelleb Laurent was the quintessential community man, having devoted much of his life to community work in the fields of education, youth affairs and sports in St. Joseph.
Official Mourners at the Official Funeral Service shall include, His Excellency, the President and Mrs. Liverpool, the Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit and other Members of Cabinet, Members of the House of Assembly, former Presidents and Prime Ministers and other Government Officials.
Public viewing of the body shall be from 3:00 pm to 3.30 p.m. at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in St. Joseph on Wednesday, May 12th 2010. The Official Funeral Service will commence at 3:30 p.m. The late Mr. Kelleb Laurent will be laid to rest at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
All Official Mourners are requested to be in their seats no later than 3:15 p.m. on that day.
