Obama Lawyer: Dictionary Defines Trump Ukraine Scandal As ‘Impeachable Offense’

Neal Katyal, former acting solicitor general, joins MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber to discuss the mounting evidence against President Trump in the impeachment probe. Katyal argues Trump ‘going to a foreign government’ and asking for ‘dirt’ on his ‘political rival,’ is the ‘dictionary definition’ of ‘an impeachable offense.’ Katyal previews some of the ‘hot button’ court cases coming before the Supreme Court, including restrictions on abortions, sex discrimination and the Dreamers Act. Aired on 10/7/19.

  1. Ari should have a segment where he praises someone and call it: “The Melber Toast.”

Yes, I did that. I don’t care. And there should be a font for sarcasm.
    I nominate ‘comic sans’.

    1. Now you’re just being foolish. You can’t deport an American citizen.
Let’s try to keep it real (and legal) shall we?

    2. @Ericka one as I understand it, Trump’s grandfather was here to avoid having to serve in the German military, ran brothels, then returned to Germany. He was kicked out of Germany (they wouldn’t put up with a draft dodger) so he returned to the U.S. The immigration laws were much different when he first arrived here. Technically, Trump isn’t an anchor baby though. I wish Germany had let Grandpa stay though.

  2. 1. The President takes an oath to defend the constitution, American democracy, and its people.
    2. t’rump put our troops at risk, to get personal help to win the 2020 election.
    3. t’rump then lied about it and used his power to make agencies cover it up.
So yeah, he broke his oath plain and simple. If you can’t see that – that’s your problem.

    1. This guy trump, DOESN’T know how to read,CONSTITUTION!?? he would think, being backed up and can’t have a bowl movement

    1. Quite right if you consider all the weather balloons trump tried and that were shutdown, like putting russia at the head of a joint cyber division to investigate the 2016 interference.

  3. When Donald J Trump committed a crime and got caught in red hands, he laid bare the naturally criminal behaviours of his past and presence. He becomes not only defiant but also shameless brazen!

    1. Ann Owens
You are preaching to the choir sister. Its unfortunate how so many of trumps supporters fail to do any research on their own and only rely on what the on air “talent” at Fox tells them. Citizens United was the worst decision EVER!!

    2. Apparently, 40% of the country doesn’t care that Trump is corrupt. That might be the saddest thing of all.

    3. @dozzer009 … Choir? No, I am speaking to people like me. I was apolitical. I read and Voted. I Trusted our Political System and the Press. The results: Trump: McConnell, Barr, Divisiveness, Mass Shooting Foreign Interference (unsolicited and SOLICITED) United Citizens vs Federal Election Commission, Russian Oligarch Investing in American Corporation.

My family, my friends have not fought and died for Generations to protect this Nation so Men Like McConnell (and his large Donors) Donald “Bonespurs” Trump and Barr, Could Soil and Sell it to the highest Bidders. I am speaking to and challenging those who have not decided. Men like McConnell, Barr and Donald Trump can no longer be Agents of Curruption in this Nation. Thank you AND Don’t give up and raise your objections loud and clear. VOTE.

  4. Republicans don’t live up to the Founding Fathers’ expectation which is defending the Constitutions…period.

    1. Anordinaryperson888 Nguyen —Apparently, it’s POWER and $$$ over COUNTRY for republicans. Trump and GOP BETRAYED their oaths and TRAITOR to the US CONSTITUTION

    1. I highly respect the brilliant legal mind of Mr. Neal Katyal. He is a rare treasure. I could listen to him all day. I am so thankful he is helping America understand this putrid period of our political lives. He gives me hope.

    1. Actually the truth is only the truth in the moment we are in. Look back in your lives and tell me your was the same 5 years ago. This is why we create laws and stautes for things like countries and religions.

  5. Republicans: Why so serious? Your clown car is almost to the cliff’s edge with Orange Sphincter at the wheel. How many will survive impact?

    1. Well if Republicans had any morals, ethics, principal and true patriotism…they wouldn’t be Republicans.

    2. @Tim Yatcak …AGEED. Along Serious Campaign Reform. AND The Repeal of The United Citizens vs Federal Election Commission SCOTUS Decision of 2020.

  6. I’m not expecting much from impeachment. The corruption has gone so far it is irreparable. It’s now the norm, and our democracy is done for. VOTE, nothing is going to change until we change administrations.

    1. Thirteen months…that’s a long time in Trump World. The harm he can accomplish in a week could set us back more than we can imagine, if he is left to believe – once again – he got away with everything. Impeachment, at the least, is a major distraction the White House must deal with. It doesn’t mean we don’t also plan for an election, it simply means Trump may not be the Republican nominee.

    2. The Republicans will rig the voting if it looks like they are likely to lose in 2020. The party is corrupt to the core.

  7. Trump’s screwed, and he knows it. Hey “Patriots” refer to The United States Constitution, he broke it.

    1. I remember those tea party rallies where everyone was walking around with their own little, personal copy of the Constitution…most of them never read it. So sad to see these folks clinging to a hope they know is a lie.

    2. @Jim Reynolds yeah slimey Ted Cruz, Ron Paul, Steve King, goofus John Kennedy (not the good one) in the front of fools holding misspelled signs they wore around their lying necks.

  8. The Supreme Court is supposed to be handling cases dealing with fundamental human rights and now they gotta waste time dealing with these petty time-wasting lawsuits from the White House. THIS IS NOT WHAT IT’S THERE FOR!!!

  9. I highly respect the brilliant legal mind of Mr. Neal Katyal. He is a rare treasure. I could listen to him all day. I am so thankful he is helping America understand this putrid period of our political lives. He gives me hope.

    1. Jean Peters
Yes, why don’t we have any of his ilk running for the top spots?! I can’t believe who we let rise to the presidency nowadays. FFS Trump?!! The only way he would have even heard of Ukraine is if his stupid Miss Universe pageant had a contestant from that country. “Nice mountains on Miss Ukraine. Heh heh”

  10. It’ll be very interesting to see Mr. Katyal and Justice Kavanaugh have a debate. My money is on Katyal for a humorous one. Also, I’d rather see him in Kavanaugh’s seat.

  11. The Law is clear on this matter!

    Federal Election Campaign Law:

    Soliciting or Receiving:

It shall be unlawful for an individual who is an officer or employee of the Federal Government, including the President, vice President, and Members of Congress, to
solicit or receive a donation of money or other thing of value in
connection with a Federal, State, or local election, while in any room
or building occupied in the discharge of official duties by an officer or
employee of the United States, from any person.
