Treat the grocery delivery personnel well, if it wasn’t for these everyday heroes, we wouldn’t survive. Everybody matters or nobody matters.

@The Real OSwervo while “intent” matters to a degree, positive action should always be rewarded if you want it repeated …. what they are doing is by account brave, even if it is “for a paycheck”, you should not begrudge them their moment in the sun … i’m a vet, a lot of military go in for many reasons i’m 4th gen of 5, for us its kind of a family thing, but those that go in for paychecks or benefits are no less to be honored, same with the people on the “front lines” of this fight …..

I find it fascinating how few people have paid attention to grocery store clerks, sanitation workers, delivery people and truck drivers who keep this country running, until now. It’s nice that these workers are getting kudos. Let’s just hope this kind of awareness stays with us and we continue to treat others as we would like to be treated … with kindness.
Edited: Please let me add that there are many other essential workers who were not in my original post. I am very grateful to everyone who is working through this pandemic. They are all heroes whose service should be acknowledged.
@orphan 200 – Agreed! I ask the names of the people who do service jobs so I can acknowledge them personally, and let them know I truly see them. I’ve done it at the homeless shelter I volunteered at and so many of the guests were very grateful to be seen.

If it wasn’t for corporations, their jobs wouldn’t exist. You should also thank the corporations who stepped up to produce medical equipment.
It’s the individual that’s important. When the system becomes increasingly more important than the individual, then society deteriorates.
I’m also in service industry, and watching customers be rude, more aggressive and intentionally combative as employees try to meet every customer’s needs. Many still don’t get it.
Management should be protecting employees and removing A hole customers. If they can’t be respectful they shouldn’t get to shop there. Let them go home empty handed and maybe they’ll learn that they aren’t important or special.

In Spain the grocery employees and delivers are saying that the costumers are much more friendly now and apreciative for their work.
It does seem to me that people, over all, are becoming more kind, more helpful, more caring.

@Amy S Don’t know where you get your info on $12 an hr for amazon. I work in a fulfillment center and my base pay is $18 an hr (amazon starts at $15 an hour for new starts) although during this pandemic they gave us an additional $2 dollars an hr for straight time and double time for any overtime worked which for me comes out to $40 dollars an hr. I also have full health, dental, and vision insurance. Amazon had also offered unlimited time off to its employees with up to two weeks off paidif you are diagnosed or exposed to the COVID-19 virus. And for the record….no I’m not in management to make this wage either…..I’m a lowly tier 1 associate just like the other 99%of the people in my building.

@Amy S if you’re referring to the green new deal, that could cost the US something like 20M jobs in a short span. Not just the millions who would be out of jobs from the oil industry, but downstream impacts too. Not to mention putting us back on having dependence for foreign oil. If it’s slow and steady push to green (E.g. natural gas as a medium term solution and more nuclear power) then it could be great.
I’d be in jail if I worked in a supermarket and anyone did that to me… I’d spray them from head to toe in Lysol ..you cough on money,you leave the store without your groceries …grown people acting like toddlers..smh

That guy buying the ice cream just got off work from the utility company where he’s been risking his safety for the past 30 years so you can charge your phone and watch tv.
My son works at the grocery store.. Customers were saying he was not going to get the virus.. One in a million.. Because he was wearing a 😷 I worry about him everyday.
Here’s a thought: RAISE THE WAGES to $15 an hour for these workers, guarantee full-time employment WITH benefits and health insurance thru Obamacare mandate… and provide them w/ PPE! Thank them for their services…👍
@Dmitri Fukov There is a difference between making a profitable business, and boosting corporate profits by underpaying & burdening workers for higher stocks. There is also a major difference between a small business and a major corporation.

@Fahim Ahmad you do realize that if a company hires 3 part timers with limited benefits vs 1 full with everything.there are 2 people who wouldn’t have been hired if you hired just one full timer.did you consider that?

Well, it is said that the microbe of the virus is tiny enough that the mask wont do anything unless its attacked to water vapors that are larger, then the water might dry and the mask is then not really gonna work now that the microbe is attached to the mask. But, thats one theory. I would not trust the masks to save you or anyone. Its safer and may help, but the truth is that the N95 mask isnt a for sure.

In the UK for the most part we are getting some extra pay/ rewards ..not much but some . I am sorry if your country isn’t undertaking such measures .

My local grocery store has installed a sink at the entrance and requires you to wash your hand before you are allowed to come into the store.
The grocery stores where I live, in Montreal, have been doing that for 3 or4 weeks now. They have either a soap-and-water hand-washing station or a big dispenser of hand sanitizer, and there’s always an employee at the entrance to make sure every customer cleans their hands. And they only allow a certain number of people in the store at any time. They’re doing a very good job, looking out for everyone’s safety.
It should just be normal practice, even mandatory, for grocery stores to have sinks and sanitizers at the front door and any one who comes in the store is required to use them before entry or turned away, I mean invited to shop elsewhere, if they refuse.
I’ll share something I witnessed about 20 years ago. Fair warning, it’s gross. …so anyway, hubby and I pull up at our neighbourhood grocery and have just excited our vehicle when two young ladies get out of their vehicle across the way. They end up walking toward the store ahead of us. One had on tight Daisy duke shorts…now I don’t know if she didn’t see us or didn’t care but she starts pulling her shorts out of her crack! I was like, oh my god! Gross! I didn’t say it out loud but hubby and I shared grossed out glances.
We ended up going our separate ways when we entered the store. After about half an hour we make our way into fruits and vegitables. There she was! Going thru fruits and vegies picking them up and putting them down, going along her merry way. We were so grossed out by what we saw we never bought any fruits or vegitables. After that, we started practicing wiping down, and washing fruits and vegies before putting them away. It changed us for life.
I think that in an establishment that sells food,people need to enter it as clean as possible. It’s just common sence. It’s safety for all.

it’s because they think they live in the land of the free and can do whatever they want. No respect for others and like you say the feeling of entitlement.
and it is that mindset and behavior that is getting people killed.. sadly. Not taking the time to think about our fellow man. We got out the other night to get food. We pulled up to a Sonic where I observed a car hop (a young kid) without gloves or mask handling money and bags of food.. no one that I saw in the place had masks on.. we backed up and decided to try Jack in The Box. We ordered, with the guy taking our order rushing us through like the building was on fire only to get up to the window and have the young kid there again without mask or gloves. He took my husband’s money.. paper money, with his bare hand and then handed us the bags of food and my husband’s change. He forgot the drink which we reminded him of (with me knowing I was not going to drink it) and proceeded to get the cup and get the drink going while he grabbed the lid with his bare hand, his fingers touching the inside of the lid. I about fell out. I held my tongue, which I should not have done.. we took the drink and headed home. Immediately on getting home I wiped all of the boxes of food down, put everything on paper plates to put it in the microwave for 35 to 40 seconds, wiped down the table, wiped down the microwave and threw out the cola. I did contact Jack In The Box who sent me a form letter telling me about what they were doing to fight covid-19 and they did ask for my address to send me coupons for free food or something. I replied that I did not think they were taking this serious enough because evidently the kid at the window did not get the memo, or ignored it. I did give them my address but told them that I would not be eating at Jack In The Box until this thing has way settled down.. and I probably won’t go then but I know my husband will. Some of these workers are either not trained on how to properly protect themselves and the public, or they just don’t care. Stay safe everyone.

But in America, in order for everyone to have a living wage, the system that has allowed select people to be able to afford to use $20 bills as toilet paper in all three of their mansions, while others earn 8.50/hr for ‘essential’ jobs, would need an overhaul. Of course, the world is full of rich people, class issues, deceitful governments and big businesses ripping us all off whenever they can. But, the US seems to have some very specific issues that don’t appear to be as pronounced in other Developed Nations.
The general population in Australia is kinda good at ignoring the ‘big issues’ such as our disgusting Human Rights abuses, feral environmental record and appalling foreign policies. But our conservative party pretty much aligns with US Progressives.
Like, there’s no way that anybody here would tolerate being charged for an emergency room visit or accept that workplaces shouldn’t pay sick leave – these things are unimaginable to us and we’re not even a particularly innovative or progressive country.
I just don’t understand how the US is so out of step with other Developed Nations – especially compared to somewhere like Sweden. My partner thinks it’s Hollywood! lol – she says it’s the ultimate propaganda machine for ‘American Exceptionalism’ – idk if that’s true or not but I feel super bad for how this pandemic is playing out in the US.
I can’t even imagine how folks must feel knowing that they don’t have federal government support in a crisis like this.
