Nick Thompson: FB Needs To ‘Reckon With Its Algorithm & The Ecosystem It Created’ | Deadline | MSNBC
You must stop freedom of speech! That pesky constipitushun!
Another Republican that failed civics.
@Drake Fire Edumakashun!
More than just facebook, any website with an algorithm needs to be completely redone to keep the user’s interests in mind. Imagine how much more educated the populace could be if youtube just stopped recommending fox news videos or stopped taking the thousands in ads that feature fringe far right talk shows. And that’s just one platform.
And keep all the ads. Consider friends far-left platforms right LOL yeah that’s what I thought
What Facebook and everyone else really need to do is start enforcing their TOS.
With bilions of users how do you sugest they do it?
@s3xyScorp With the billions of dollars they make off us. We’re entitled to expect them to enforce their own rules.
It can be difficult to determine what actually constitutes “misinformation”. That’s quite a rabbit hole.
Misinformation is bluntly lies? It’s disinformation that we want to stop, people can make mistakes on putting out misinformation but disinformation is when people purposely spread misinformation.
It’s not hard to understand what misinformation is because you can check it with reality. Also if people can understand the difference of objective and subjective it is easier to spot misinformation.
They need to get rid of the misinformation and the people who spread it.
How does FB determine whats misinformation exactly ?
@s3xyScorp If it comes from Russia oops that’s one of their investors
@s3xyScorp It’s a fair question, and not an easy one. I’d be satisfied if they could just ensure their platforms were free of coordinated inauthentic activity (i.e., geopolitical and corporate trolls).
Facebook also needs to deal with their algorithms that put people in Facebook Jail. OUTRAGEOUS!!
I have been shut out, for a week, multiple times now for pointing this out, on the ‘effbook’.
“Ban all Republicans” can’t argue with that but I was thinking something more effective that that … like making a 1000 boxes with incremental amounts of carbon dioxide within … thermometers… and sunlight.
Cause Republicans are mentally challenged… in so many ways… requiring so many 1st graders experiments to help their understanding
The Republicans will be thrilled that they are 1st graders… its a win win 🏆😃
The best way to deal with disinformation problem is to overhaul our K-12 to teach kids how understand the quality of information and how to find reliable sources from multiple sources.
Need to have a logic class that teaches to come to their own conclusion through critical thinking.
That might be possible since Betsy DeVos is no longer Secretary of Education and pushing private and charter schools and defunding public schools. Maybe refunds will be restarted.
Agree — logic is the antidote. But unfortunately that’s a long-term solution to an immediate problem. I tend to think we need to do that AND find a way to stem the tide.
Facebook is trash and I been off it for approximately 4 years .
How can FB determine whats MISINFORMATION exactly,,? Do tell
YouTube is just as bad, if not worse than Facebook. This place is crawling with trolls spreading disinformation and nothing is ever done about it.
Of course facebook is “programmed” by dweebs with no business or social skills whatsoever. If you never “like,” and post derogatory responses to the spams, you can cause your advertising profile to go haywire. The system is set up to make money — not to make sense. So I tell the spammers they’re irrelevant, and I state the reason. Then facebook assures them “you’re reaching perfect targets.” If they do reach a viable target, it was completely by accident.
I’ll never be an advertising target — I’m past retirement age, and have no money. I explain that. If promoters actually added up their leads from facebook, most would discover it’s money right down the drain.
FB should be regulated and no one wants to ban all Republicons that’s a false choice.
I am not savvy about social media at all. (I was one of the last humans on the planet to enjoy using the internet. ) I am so near-sighted and love to read articles, news stories and books. The back light of my cellphone is irritating to my eyes, even though it is easier to read off my fancy newer cellphone …which my son gave me. Yup. Almost blinded by the cellphone internet connection. Almost.
It’s only a matter of time.
This is a strange argument. Do you allow criminals to go about their crimes because if you try to stop them, they will just find other ways to do crime?
Fb slammed me with warnings for posting AGAINST mysogyny, and for posting against fascism. So I no longer use it.
Knowing the difference between a fact & an opinion is difficult but not impossible. 📚 help
There will be no action in the Senate on ANY problem until the filibuster is fixed.
So how about a 55% population-based cloture rule?
Turns out the Democrats already represent 55% of the voters. Presto chango, no filibuster.
