If the president of Mexico were to have a news conference and announce to the world that he was having discussions with Putin about a Russian military base in Ciudad Juarez, Washington DC would go ballistic. This does not mean (nor did it ever) that those vaccinated cannot get COVID. Right from the very earliest days, the hope was for a vaccine that was at least 70% efficacious. (What *exactly* do you think that means?) What we got was vaccines that were 95% efficacious. (How do you think this was determined?) Then, the COVID-19 virus evolved the omicron strain, which has partial—but not total—resistance to the mechanism by which the vaccines function. … And, NONE of the above is intended to be taken “in absolutes”; it should all be viewed and understood through the lens of probability. That’s how epidemiology works.
