Family attorney Justin Miller tells Lawrence O’Donnell that the disciplinary history showing the officer who killed Rayshard Brooks had multiple prior complaints, including a reprimand for use of force with a firearm in 2016, was “very troubling” and could be a “very big piece to the puzzle” in building a case against the officer if criminal charges are filed. Aired on 6/16/2020.

NBC News: Officer Who Fatally Shot Rayshard Brooks Disciplined For Use Of Force With Firearm | MSNBC
But of course. Most have a rap sheet that gets covered up. We need more transparency and accountability
Its irrelevant… cops dont get to shoot people because they resist or run away
Apparently he also had 9 hours of de-escalation training too. 🙄
Sean Shields I have seen his record. And so should the police arresting him
@Ro G but did he plan on killing him?
@SparrowGryphon but where does it become Mr Brook fault …. the fighting with the police … the grabbing of a weapon ….. the running away. i agree he should not have been shot. but you have to realize with all the of Mr Brooks action cause this. But not to that point of being shot 2 in the back. but he was the match that lit the fuse for this outcome RIP Mr. Brooks
@Reagan Cognata I dunno. TBH, it doesn’t seem premeditated so I thought the charge would be manslaughter. But I’m no lawyer.
@Reagan Cognata I never said he did nothing wrong, the police had every right to arrest Mr. Brook’s but in no way was being shot and killed Mr. Brook’s fault.
There clearly needs to be a deprogramming of the Quick Draw McGraw culture in police departments, and replace it with de-escalation training. Cops should have to go through a week of de-escalation training. It would save lives, careers, as well as save cities and towns millions of dollars in legal fees, and wrongful deaths settlements.
There needs to be a halt to HIRING MEN AND WOMEN who have an ‘axe to grind’ attitude. Law enforcement needs QUALIFIED applicants. Applicants who change their personalities by acting tough to get their point across should not be used to get respect for the law. Gestapo tactics went out with HITLER or should have.
@Scoobie You lost me at using my ‘tater’ on me. I don’t want anyone stealing my taters, but I’m not sure how ‘using’ it on me works, exactly.
@5Fifths You’re dumb and you’re falling for MSNBC and their race baiting.
@Constituent A fukn auto correct dude. You’re all still sheep and if this “racewar” you’re pushing for takes off. I’ll give you 1 guess as to who will come out on top? Lol
It’s not just police culture, it’s American culture.
Also to Scoobie, he didn’t attack the cops, he was being co-operative, it was when the two cops, went on either side of him, grabbed both arms, went behind him, and only then informed him that he was under arrest that he started to struggle, because he was somewhat intoxicated, had recently been so tired, he kept falling asleep, and well, not resisting arrest worked just so well for George Floyd. Rather than doing that, they could have just written him a ticket, took his keys, got him a cab, and sent him home, the cop he had been dealing with could have talked to him to his face, rather than both going in behind him, and grabbing him before telling him he was under arrest, and so on. While they were rolling around, you can see one of the cops prodding him with what looks like his taser, and maybe even using it on him (they can have multiple usage functions, for both close, and longer range).
The guy clearly was freaking out over the idea of being arrested, and since he wasn’t some big criminal, just some dude that fell asleep in a Wendy’s drive through, I’d say it’s the environment, and recent events that had him freaked out. Did the cops absolute *have* to make that arrest, no, but they sure felt they had too, and that’s part of what David J was talking about. Also the fact you said if a “black person,” and not just a “person,” speaks volumes about your mindset.
Well..This indeed makes it hard to understand why he was out there patrolling instead of sitting at some desk doing paperwork or something…Sad how people with previous records/complaints make the same mistakes over and over again (goes for cop and victim as well).
Police departments are known to shuffle around bad cops like predatory Catholic priests.
Paul Jansen : Indeed. I have to say that they both did a good job, right up until he drew his gun. His colleague seems innocent, to me? They were very patient, respectful, professional and so on. I really wish there was a better way to cuff a perp? It’s always that moment, when they put on the cuffs, when it turns horrible. The perp knows it’s over, once those go on. Some clever device that self adjusts, would prevent so many of these tragedies
CJ Sledgehammer : Good analogy
mistakes??
This is the result of the police “warrior” culture – arming and training them like military. They’re not warriors. They’re not at war. And the people are not the enemy.
@Emily Moss Wow you need a job get off unemployment you have to much time on your hands.
@Reagan Cognata All you people ever offer are pathetically impotent insults.
And you’re bad at that too. How is it even possible to be so bad at everything?
No one gets to shoot unarmed people in the back, dum dum. It’s not complicated. It’s not debatable. And it’s the law.
@Emily Moss you need to ask your parents that.;
@Reagan Cognata Please call 800-950-6264 or email info@nami.org.
They can offer you sympathy and support and provide you information about mental health resources in your community.
Good luck.
oh thank you Emily. just talking to you i sure do need help.
Thank god i live in Oz,the cops here are no angels, but they dont act anywhere remotely close to American cops like its the Wild West & a free for all to shoot as they do!
stop exaggerating.
No wonder crime rates are up. Do police offer gunmen a cake instead of pulling out a weapon to defend themselves.
MSNBC has s facts
to many cowboys trying to be cops or boys trying to be men with real guns
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH8gUhDd6WE
a throat punch could be a deadly weapon.
to a cop even his own shadow can be made into a deadly weapon.
In the city I live in, I would be hard-pressed to think of many police officers that I’ve seen that are over about 5/8. That lack of size is something that puts these cops at a severe disadvantage in any physical confrontation.
If these people are going to be running our streets, maybe we should hire people with the appropriate skill sets and size.
If a cop’s only defense is going to be to use a weapon we’re going to continue to to see that. Christ, take a high school wrestling class.
Not good Enough he should be in jail
I hate commercials in the middle of the video.
Thumbs Down!!!
Stand up all victims of oppression
For the tyrants fear your might!
Don’t cling so hard to your possessions
For you have nothing if you have no rights!
Let flagging ignorance be ended
For respect makes the empires fall!
Freedom is merely privilege extended
Unless enjoyed by one and all
So comrades come rally
For the struggle carries on
The Internationale
Unites our world in song
So comrades come rally
For this is the time and place
The International ideal
Unites the human race
Let no one build walls to divide us
Walls of hatred nor walls of stone
Come greet the dawn and stand beside us
We’ll live together or we’ll die alone
In our world poisoned by exploitation
Those who have taken, now they must give!
And end the vanity of nations,
We’ve but one Earth on which to live.
And so begins the final drama
In the streets and in the fields.
We stand unbowed before their armour
We defy their guns and shields!
When we fight provoked by foes aggression.
Let us be inspired by life and love
And though they offer us concessions
Change will not come from the sky !
Murderers!! Standing on his Shoulders and Kicking Him!!! My GOD!!
We need a more peaceful America inside America. We really need to train cops to just chillax. If they chill, the people will chill too
Just charged with murder
I love being black
Here in Australia we have a TV show called RBT [Random Breath Test], and it shows the efforts to keep drunks off our roads. It does show the difference the police in both countries handle the situation. Here if you fail the roadside test, you are arrested on the spot, and asked to go to the police station for another test. But the big difference is that we treat the arrested person in quite a different way, we don’t put them in cuffs and act in very heavy handed way we see your police do.
Police should treat a guy sleeping in parking lot in different with the guy driving.
