The man is 85 his life is all about over.. I hope there is video from that area… if he has lawyers trust me they are working on something to say he was scared or he had a mental issue because of his age.. all these stand your ground states has too many loopholes for people to get off.

@Emm Peterson the homeowner was charged with first degree assault today. He literally has no defense and it was racially motivated. Here’s what happened. Yarl rang the doorbell thinking he had the right house. Totally innocent mistake that could happen to anyone. The homeowner opens the door and shoots the kid in the forehead. He then shot him again in the arm when he was on the ground. As Yarl amazingly ran off, the homeowner yelled, ” Don’t come around here no more!!” Please explain how any of that is justified in your MAGA mind?

So, the shooter’s atty will try and claim that he is 85 yrs old, and was afraid, and infirm. Which hopefully, the prosecution will counter with, the dude shouldn’t own a gun if his too infirm and his mind is too clouded to responsibly own one. This is going to be an ugly trial if it makes it that far. I don’t care how old the shooter is, it’s still no excuse to try and murder a kid, simply for ringing your doorbell.

He’s old enough to go to a home and he’s also old enough to stop using firearms. It’d be a waste of money to put him in jail. We can’t have people shooting someone for ringing their doorbell! We need to get serious about firearms in this country. Registration, background checks, licensing, insurance, banning assault weapons. Americans are tired of feeling like target practice for certain types of people.
These proposals are all infringements on the 2nd amendment.
Banning assault weapons would not have changed this incident. I’d be surprised if the pistol was legally purchased or registered. I think your suggestions should be pursued, but all of those things you suggested wouldn’t have prevented this shooting, I fear.
@Emm Peterson what is he said, she said? The guy was initially taken into custody the night the incident occurred. He gave police a statement. The state looked at the facts and decided to charged him with 2 crimes. Also, the guy shot through his own glass door without opening it so that means he was under no threat of harm. After he shot the kid in the head he opened up hus broken door, exited his house, stood over the kid and shot him again as he lay on the ground bleeding after being shot in the head. That’s all I need to know.
The guns aren’t the problem. We’ve been saying they are for decades, shootings continue to happen more often. We say the next bill will make the difference, yet absolutely nothing supports that argument. This is all a byproduct of the ongoing social decay in this country.
Until we address our sociopolitical/cultural issues, things like this will only get worse. Further proof is what’s been happening in chicago over the weekend, January 6th from republicans, the 2020 summer riots from democrats, the congressional baseball shooter, the trans shooter who targeted a Christian school. None of that is normal. The rhetoric in politics these days isn’t normal.
At Purdue, a conservative speaker was protested by college students holding death to fascist signs among other things, directed at the speaker and his audience. Interviewers there talked to the crowd where many students said they had never heard anything from or about the speaker they were protesting before, one even saying they wouldn’t be able to even tell you what he looked like. That intolerance and hyperpartisan nature is creating more and more violence in this country. College democrats are infamous for protesting conservative speakers insofar as to throw paint on them, try to break into their rooms, chase athletes down hallways, and so on.
The issue isn’t entirely on democrats. I’m an independent for a reason. Democrats hold more influence and power, however, and their insistence that we continue to blame guns for what their users are doing is ludicrous to me.
Democrat lawmakers continue to blame republicans for all of these shootings, yet they never stop to consider how their rhetoric and behaviors have contributed to this issue- given that shooters aren’t of any one creed or ideology. To be a shooter these days is something anyone of any party or group could do. It’s part of a bigger issue and attacking guns won’t change any of it. All that will ever do is punish law abiding citizens.

We have shown 1000 times over as a society that we are not responsible enough to justify private gun ownership. Confiscate all of them
Some people are responsible enough. That’s why we need to treat them like automobiles! License, registration, insurance and competency testing! People who are responsible enough to own a gun will be able to manage that. People who are not responsible enough to own a gun will be strongly opposed to that. And of course, like Australia, we should outlaw assault rifle type weapons. And I think that we should outlaw bumpstocks and limit magazine capacity.
How do you plan to confiscate weapons from criminals? And will cops also have their guns confiscated? Private security?
