@waycam77 So, you are telling us that … you could not pay for university, yet you took that path. And you didn’t have a plan for paying the student loan, yet you borrowed. You ended up with a degree in which you are not even good at, resulting in stale wage. All those mistakes of all you own doing are somehow caused by some rich guy paying lower tax %? really?
It is great that some wealthy individuals are will to ‘contribute’ more to society (tax), but are you ever going to own up on you own wrong decisions in life? Wanting someone’s stuffs you don’t have is not ‘struggle’, it’s ‘jealousy’. If you are 40 now, it’s not too late yet. You still have 45 years to go. Just needs to wake up … like we all did. @Sarah Lee Wow. If 40 year old me can afford to pay more tax it means I am in the higher tax bracket. You don’t need to be poor to empathize with people who are doing it tough. Your inability to see the obvious rort has me questioning your credentials. Increasing social mobility and equality of opportunity doesn’t come at the cost of meritocracy. If you believe it does it means you’re yet to venture outside of the US.
@waycam77 What you are feeling, it is not ’empathy’, you are ‘projecting’. People who had difficulty growing up (including financially) never complained for other people to solve their problems. They are most resilient adults as they had learned early on to rely on oneself.
If you are in your 20’s and are struggling financially at the moment, it’s a just life phase. But, you will not come out of it if you just keep stubbornly pursuing something you can’t have (at this moment). You might want to take ‘another path’, just for few years and then return and try again. I went through the same thing myself, lots of us did … it’s part of life learning.
@Sarah Lee I want to live in a world with more engineers and you want to close that door behind you. You fear competition and I embrace it. That is the fundamental difference between you and I. When the G.I bill was introduced half of all ex-servicemen attended university and this lifted a whole generation of people out of poverty.. I paid $10k for my engineering degree 20 something years ago. Today the same degree at the same university will set you back 60k. So no, I’m not projecting my struggles on the current crop of engineering students, they have it monumentally worse.

trump’s presidency has been marked by so much sleaze and bias towards the rich. Bernie Saunders is the antidote. Bernie is incorruptible, and will fight for the large majority of the people…the rich have always been able to take care of themselves.
