Venezuela, Antigua, St Kitts and Nevis and Netherlands Antilles congratulate Prime Minister Skerrit
Roseau, Dominica – December 23, 2009……Messages of congratulations continue to pour into Roseau for Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit following his party’s crushing victory in the December 18th 2009 General Elections.
The message from Prime Minister of Grenada, Hon. Tillman Thomas to Prime Minister of Dominica, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit reads:
“It is indeed a pleasure to extend congratulations from the Government and people of Grenada and myself on your resounding victory at the polls of 18 December 2009. 17 out of 21 seats represent a landslide and a clear cut mandate to lead for a second consecutive term.
“Such an assertive reaction and profound statement by Dominicans is demonstrative of their confidence in your leadership and policies; and coming at a time when the world is in financial turmoil, it underscores their belief in your ability to pull Dominica through the worst of the crisis.
“I look forward to our continued excellent working relations, at the bilateral, sub-regional and international levels, confident that, the basis we have already built over your years in Office will continue to persevere and consolidate. I take the opportunity to express best wishes for your continued good health and for the prosperity of Dominica and Dominicans.”
Prime Minister Skerrit has also received a congratulatory letter from Mr. Roland Duncan, Minister of Constitutional and Home Affairs of the Netherlands Antilles.
The letter to Prime Minister Skerrit reads:
“On behalf of the Government and people of the Netherlands Antilles, we extend congratulations to you on the landslide victory of the Dominica Labour Party in the recent elections. We take note of the overwhelming confidence the people of Dominica has entrusted in you.
“We look forward to continue working with your government and you to strengthen the bonds between our nations and the wider Caribbean. We wish you strength, wisdom and perseverance as you continue working for the citizens of Dominica.”
The Dominica Labour Party won 18 out of the 21 seats in the December 18th 2009 General Elections and obtained 61.3% of the popular vote, the party’s best result since 1966.
