Meet the viral freestyle soccer Hijabi at the World Cup

Maymi Asgari is a freestyle soccer player and a TikTok sensation hoping to use her social media fame to normalize Hijab-wearing players and inspire girls from all backgrounds to take on the male-dominated sport.

During the World Cup, Asgari started uploading videos of her performing freestyling tricks outside stadiums in Qatar. They started gaining traction online with one post getting 19.6 million views on TikTok.
