vulnerable among us from contracting the virus.

Amen. That’s it right there.The failure to share accurate information regarding the virus and act on guidance from the World Health Organization is how we got to this point.
The current economic consequences were avoidable. Deploying testing on a massive scale and distribution of masks to everyone is an effective strategy to defeat the virus. Closing everything down and travel bans are not effective in containing contagious diseases.
Wear a mask when you go out.
Wash your hands frequently.Practice social distancing.
Only a small percentage of people infected with the virus will actually become seriously ill.
These preventive measures we take are to protect others from becoming infected. We are protecting them.

As your article stated it was set up to fight Ebola and once Ebola was nearly eradicated it was supposed to be downsized. There job was to fight Ebola, that fight was over. If you want to stop infectious disease stay home. I am not sure why you would rely on the government to help you.

@Dan Schulte I came from a rough childhood, I lived on my own since I was 16. I spent my first couple weeks on my own living in school buses since it was Christmas break in Iowa. I couldn’t rely on my parents or anyone else. If I was in a church trying to stay warm the pastor would try to hold me there until police came. I wouldn’t rely on anyone to help me or my family, that’s up to me. My parents ultimately taught me not to trust anyone and I recommend you do the same.
Shawn Aning Sometimes great things come from humble beginnings. There are vibrational realities that we live in. We find ourselves in vibrational scenarios by thinking, you choose what to think, how to live, then we become that. We are creatures of habit. You’ve a great amount of self determination. But, we are social creatures and some of our strength comes from interfacing and reacting to others. To be our best, we need to open up our hearts to others, and not just humans, all life.
The answer isn’t just ventilators. It’s all the drug infusions and additional machines to run the body while ventilated, the syringes, tubes and lines etc, constant supply of masks and gowns to prevent cross contamination and the specialised nurse needed to run the entire scenario. One ICU nurse to one patient. It takes a good year to be competent to treat an ICU patient as an ICU nurse. Doctors do not run the scene alone in ICU, it’s very nurse led with many supplies and machines involved, so It’s not answered with just a load of ventilators although it’s a good start.

@David Wong CDC guidelines just changed for the worse. Now, even if we may have been exposed, we are still supposed to go to work but wear masks What masks? N95s or surgical masks or bandanas?. So healthcare workers are going to spread the disease instead of contain it We need to test our healthcare workers first and shelter at home the general public. None of those celebrities/ basketball players needed tests before us.In China, the healthcare workers were in Hazmat suits, regular citizens kept home, those on the streets were wearing masks, they were spraying everyone coming in and out of stores and hospitals. And they have found that 50% of those testing positive have NO SYMPTOMS. So Imagine how this disease is spreading and has been spreading here.

Also, people have been warned over and over again to stay home and avoid non essential travel etc. To stay at home and people were and still are ignoring those rules, not because of anyone else but themselves, like the ignorant College kids romping around on Spring break, Parents dragging their kids out to groceries stores when one Parent could have stayed home with the kids etc. Way too many stories of people taking risks and only thinking of themselves.
