Many Americans are experiencing the economic hardship of the coronavirus pandemic, as over twenty million people are now unemployed. Mark Cuban, entrepreneur and owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, joins MSNBC’s Ari Melber to discuss economic impact of the coronavirus. As federal and state governments begin to reopen the economy, Cuban tells Melber, America is “wholly unprepared” to reopen while allowing both patrons and employees to feel safe. As the owner of a small restaurant in Missouri that is struggling by only doing to-go orders, I fully support keeping restaurants closed until the CDC says it’s safe to do so. No money is worth my or any of my employee’s or guest’s health.

@Cartell Jenkins I wanted to give you an update.. I start the moving process 1st thing in the a.m. the uhaul truck is out front. I did contact legal aid which they want me to come in for an appt & have stated the landlord is in the wrong. But the company the landlord uses (they manage his properties here in FL. since he resides in N.C.) found me a place not far from me & even though it is a few hundred more a month. I am going in half & half with a roommate (co-worker). I will be paying even less monthly so this is beneficial. Plus I am able to move everything to do a thorough deep cleaning, throw out what is not needed or donate & put stuff in a storage unit that is not needed. It will be strange situation for me to be a 40 year old sharing a room with someone, we are doing bunk beds but this helps him out & me financially due to the crisis. I am still seeking legal advice & will take them up on the appt once I get moved in & situated since I was harrassed & threatened with a vacate the premises notice when I have been a loyal tenant for 15 years. His (the homeowner’s) motive was just morally unethical during this time & unnecessary during a stay at home order being in effect. I am staying positive & compliant with what I can control. Due to the state reopening & me being immune compromised I decided to leave my job for the time being. I told my boss who opened up for dine-in’s that I do not feel safe. He did ask what he could do to make me feel safe because he does not want to lose me as an employee. I told him that I do not feel he could provide me the level of safe I want. Even if he required us to all wear mask that it would not help since this is a restaurant & people cannot eat with a mask on. I do feel bad doing this to my boss but he amazed me when he respected my decision. I have more then enough money saved up to continue helping my daughter who is 21 & lives in Georgia & to support my part in bills for about 5 months. I do not plan taking that amount of time away but if this continues to go the way it does. I have 2 options. Option#1: Hit the woods with all the survival crap I’ve ordered or Option#2: Look for a job working from home. Thank you for your prayers & response. I wish the best to you as well. I am still in shock that I decided for some away time from my job for this is not my nature & I will not file for unemployment for being at high risk due to my health but I felt like staying at home was needed. Again best of luck.

But I had a roommate a few years back and it was really good financially. Yeah. You need to talk to someone about your landlords actions. Its not right. But at least you have a place and youll be able to save money with the roommate. I definitely think you should apply for unemployment. Employers pay into unemployment insurance. That money is allocated for these types of situations. Youve basically been laid off. The federal govt is adding additional funding to unemployment claims, to combat situations just like Yours!! As a Canadian, I received $2000 2 weeks ago, and will continue to get $2000 per month, for the next 3 months. I also received a tax refund, and an increase in Federal child support payments called CCB (Canadian Child Benefit). Our Prime Minister didn’t lie, cheat, deceive, obfuscate or endanger our lives. There is a world and government out there that cares for people’s well being when they lose their jobs due to extraordinary circumstances. Canada isn’t the only one, but how proud I am to be Canadian every single day. BTW….proud for many reasons.

The 52 states are smaller individually than these countries and are still the richest country in the world thanks to blue state bailouts to red ones. They refuse because you already have big companies saying they can’t(I mean won’t) implement social distancing, aren’t responsible for providing protective gear, but also bare no fault if said employees get sick on the job. @binka21 Everyone thinks they know what to do without all the data the scientists and governors have before making the call to quarantine in order to flatten the curve. Remember asking people to keep it moving means hospitals and frontline doctors/nurses continue to work 12-16hr days and deal with deaths. Overwhelming the system and leaving more people to die in their own homes isnt best plan to “keep it moving” that’s just a person having no plan. We havent even shut down for 2 months to flatten the curve and you talking about 2-5years. Btw the government could have printed money for regular folks to get monthly UBI to continue to help the economy do well instead they giving the majority of the money to huge corporate masters.

@binka21 You make an interesting point. Quarantine the sick, not the healthy and open the economy. Anyone can spread it, healthy or sick, and it is highly contagious. It seems likely very many ppl, particularly elderly, who are obese, immune compromised, or suffer from any of numerous organ disorders like cardiac, diabetes, pulmonary, kidney/liver etc, will eventually contract the virus. The outcome is a coin toss for many. In essence, you can run, but you can’t hide. Can we get everyone on board with your idea? Particularly, can we all be comfortable with weeding out the sick, the weakened, the compromised, the elderly or simply the unfortunate of this country so we can restore our economy? No doubt many of the 80,000 already dead contributed to our economy…many of which have already been replaced. But if our hospitals nationwide become overwhelmed and the death toll starts knocking on the door of 7 figures, how quickly can we replace millions? Economic collapse may not be the most pressing concern…rather societal collapse.
