I thought that as well. (Once Osama Bin Laden was killed in 2010, I wanted the end of this Afghanistan war! ) Yet, Vietnam was long as well. We never understood their cultures as well. Heartbreaking when you think about it!

With all the videos and pictures that I’ve seen 99% of the people fleeing are grown men. Only cowards leave their women and children behind.
It is way more complex than that. Do you really think there is some difference in how Afghans regard their loved ones than the rest of humanity? No, you saw all men and boys at the airport because of the Taliban’s history of killing women, persecuting anyone with ties to U.S. & Afghan Military. It is my understanding that the majority of the people at the airport(most of the videos circulating) had ties to either U.S. or Afghan military and their families. Hence, a clear and present danger for any of their women and children. The men at that airport were desperate. A more realistic view, imo, is that if these men could get out, they could then help their families out. Women and children stay home(indoors) where it’s relativity safe at the moment(all things considered), as the Taliban probably won’t try to start any large-scale door to door crack-down until after the “agreed upon” Aug 31 deadline for removal of U.S. Afghan allies. So, please, when trying to make points be careful not to “other” your human brothers in Afghanistan. We’re all the same only separated by our egos and a life of rotten poli-tricks, and reactionary comments on the cesspool that is social media. Take care of yourself, take care of your family(that means we each need to hold ourselves accountable for the stuff that comes out our mouth or we’re the ones putting our families in harms way, not the Afghan man you see in TV news clips).

A Republican president decided he had to invade a country for political reasons to get revenge. There are other easier ways to get revenge for 9/11 but these do not win popular votes.
Spot on. People have forgotten that was the tipping point. Taliban gained control of that country back then. Pompeo should be invited to Congress to answer why he struck a deal with the Taliban without the democratically elected President of Afghanistan or a representative of the elected government. I believe that was why the government collapsed because Pompeoo undermined a democratically elected government by that action.
When historians warned us that Trump’s actions will have far-reaching effect, we did not listen. Jan 6th, now Taliban take over. The hubris of the Trump administration is costing America so much but people are blinded by partisan politics and all they do is blaming Biden whom i think had to go against the Generals who have kept us in Afghanistan for 20 years with nothing to show for it.
The implication will have a negative impact on his political career but i guess he sacrificed that for the future of America. We cannot continue to spend millions of dollars daily on nothing
