In the days of Lincoln, the Republican Party wanted to and was going to tax slave owners for their property value of their slaves. Of course, rich southern salve owners didn’t want to be taxed for their slaves even though they had claimed for years that they were merely property and not people. So, that’s how the Republican Party came to “overthrow” slavery and why the Civil War began. It wasn’t about being decent or righteous. Like most things in the U.S., it was about MONEY. Now, in the 60’s the Democratic Party realized that they could increase their power, which had dropped over the years, by engaging blacks to become involved in the Democratic Party. So, the previous statement about the GOP always being the way it is now, isn’t far from the truth at all. They’ve unfortunately, become far more like the old Democratic Party of the 20’s and 30’s than ever before. Racist and white is the moto of the Republican Party today, but they’re still about the MONEY. That part hasn’t changed at all.
