I just came back from Walmart. It was a madhouse, there was eggs and milk, but all the bread was gone, all the lunchmeat, and of course, all the TP was gone. I’ve never seen empty shelves like that in America. We are indeed living in interesting times.

I do not know if the trend has started in English cities, but over here in several European countries, at 8 pm, we go to our doorsteps and balconies and clap for a few minutes to give our thanks to the medical teams, police work, and all the others who look after us. And we exchange a few words of comfort between neighbours, from a safe distance of course. It is to be helpful, both for those for whom it is intended, and for us. The best to you and your loved ones.

We were both following same ‘strategy’ of “letting it run its course” until they sent a little message to trump showing him we’d lose over 2 million if we stayed the course. People who contracted it today will start showing up in 2 weeks because we still aren’t doing much testing, now we all have to separate and wait to see how muc health care is overwhelmed.

From what I understand in New York, the retired healthcare workers are there as a backup staff, basically to be there in the absolute worst case scenario that all the younger current staff gets infected and has to go in isolation/treatment/or worse. Obviously, this would really be terrible because you would have a much older, elderly group of doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers that are vulnerable to sickness and death. I believe the elder staff would likely be a stop gap or supervise from home while hopefully the younger staff come back, or at least hoping that not all the younger staff gets sick at once.
The idea is that they free up staff from ordinary healthcare
As Dr Fauci in America said, act as if you have it and can pass it along, especially with those whose health is already compromised. Make each trip out be assessed as to its importance.
