ROSEAU, Dominica (GIS) — Come mid-April, 2011, LIAT is expected to begin scheduling flights to Dominica in the evening. According to public works minister, Rayburn Blackmoore, based on discussions between LIAT and the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCA), new developments are underway for night-landing in Dominica.
“Based on the discussion with the ECCA, LIAT will be able to come to Dominica sometime in mid April, 2011 pending the approval of the publication of the Instrument Approach Procedure. I want to say, since that letter, we have gotten the actual approval for the publication of the chart because all the information has to be contained in a graphic form by way of a chart so that it can be used by the various airmen.
I have with me a copy of what the chart looks like. As I have said before for those who are very sceptical of our ability to move forward as a nation and to offer that improvement to the whole issue of air access to Dominica can say again that the government has indicated again for yet another time and we believe that night landing in itself will help us get to the next level in Dominica,” Blackmoore said.
He added that LIAT has since written to the government and is committed to flying into Dominica. The new procedure chart, which is required for international flights to land at Melville Hall Airport, will be published March 10, 2011.
