In partial footage obtained by the Daily Mail from the body cameras worn by two of the now-former Minneapolis police officers involved in the arrest of George Floyd, a panicked Floyd can be seen struggling with officers while in the back of a squad car in the minutes before his death, saying, "I can't breathe."
Moments later, following the struggle, Officer Thomas Lane can be heard asking Officer Derek Chauvin whether Floyd should be rolled on his side.
Floyd died May 25 while in custody, and the incident — which was also recorded on cell phone video — set off protests that soon went nationwide. The demonstrations over his killing and the deaths of other African Americans at the hands of police prompted intense discussions on racism in America.
The Daily Mail, based in London, does not say how it obtained the footage of the police body cameras.

waqaa you don’t have to be formally placed under arrest to be put in handcuffs. He was being legally detained. In the full video, the cop begins to explain why they are making contact but Floyd began acting immediately belligerent and abnormal. Yes, the cop drew his weapon when Floyd was reaching around and the cop could not see his hands. Shortly after Floyd decided to place his hands on the steering wheel, the cop holstered his weapon. Floyd was 7/8 in the car, and still belligerent. All he had to do was lift his feet and face forward. He could’ve not freaked out in the first place and 95% of the situation could’ve went differently. This is not to say that the idiot who chose to kneel on his neck was justified, because he wasn’t. George Floyd certainly did not deserve to die, and the continued kneeling on his neck was completely unjustified. That being said, had George not decided to use counterfeit money, then choose to act belligerently, then resist arrest, and then refuse to get in the car, are all undeniable contributing factors that unfortunately weighed heavy in the outcome.

If, in his past, George did something similar to get out of jail or tried to resist by making up excuses or something then that’d would be understandable that the cops reacted that way but to my knowledge and from the 18 minutes of footage, George couldn’t breath and he voiced his breathing difficulties to the cops many many times and they did nothing.

@Misfits Dream no, but the fact that he had drugs in his system and claimed to have trouble breathing before being on the ground or having pressure on his neck makes it difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt in the court of law that Chauvin’s actions alone killed Floyd. Also that type of hold was apparently taught and/or permitted by the department at the time, making a claim of excessive or inappropriate force more difficult to prove as well. Their best bet is probably to target the duration of which the hold was applied, perhaps they’ll be able to make the case he performed the hold for too long

Even if the choke hold is permitted by the department. The lethal force was not justified. The man claimed to be claustrophobic and did not wish to be in the car.
