@Bebs It’s a simple matter of opinion. I have lived in rural areas, I have lived in medium cities and I have lived in large cities. In, my opinion a large city is the best.
And, your independence is an illusion. The underlying interconnectedness of all things is a reality none can escape. Your power grid is dependent on the manufacturing capabilities of cities as much as those cities are dependent on the food production of farms. Small towns are the middle men of these transactions. You rely on the city for more than you may think.
I disparage neither, I simply prefer life in a city. Small apartments aren’t a problem if you prefer to live simply, parking isn’t an issue with a small car. But, the wide ranging food, ideas, cultures and people make the difference to me. Cities have the same issues as anywhere just on a larger scale.
Not all cities are the same… there are actually some cities that are really nice… take Boston Massachusetts… Boston is a really nice clean city.. their downtown is the cleanest I’ve ever seen…most downtown cities are sh!tholes but that is not the case in Boston… Tampa Florida isn’t bad either… Portland Oregon is pretty good… Charlotte North Carolina is pretty good… there’s some good cities and there’s some bad cities…my point is not all cities are really bad… I don’t knock people that like to live in small towns…I grew up in the city but I have lots of relatives that live in small towns… sometimes I like going to small towns…out in the country….fresh air no traffic quiet peace of mind…get away from the fast pace rat race….
