President Joe Biden formally announced his decision to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan before September 11, the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon that led the US into its longest war.
"We cannot continue the cycle of extending or expanding our military presence in Afghanistan hoping to create the ideal conditions for our withdrawal, expecting a different result," Biden said.
"I am now the fourth American president to preside over an American troop presence in Afghanistan. Two Republicans. Two Democrats," he added. "I will not pass this responsibility to a fifth."
In a sign he views his remarks as a historic bookend to the prolonged conflict, he delivered them from precisely the same spot in the White House Treaty Room that President George W. Bush announced the start of the war on October 7, 2001. Afterward he'll visit the section of Arlington National Cemetery where many of America's war dead from Afghanistan are buried.

But more over, when you are injured in service to the country, you are told time and time again you will be provided for. Vets should not have to fight the faceless, uncaring, government agency for benefits they are entitled to.
@tommyboy Problem isn’t spending more money. The problem is, todays buzz word, “systemic” corruption in the VA. VA’s all over the country lie and cut corners with veteran care to get more money then do everything in their power to keep it for themselves. I can’t confirm this sort of behavior officially, I just know what myself and other vets are experiencing, and the stories of former VA workers who can collaborate these sort of behaviors.

@Lui C I was a combat engineer in the 503rd. Ran over a mine in an MRAP. Luckily I was the worst with a small concussion. VA comes up with every excuse not to consider me a wounded vet. Meanwhile I know a mechanic who was stationed at Bagram who dropped a brake rotor on his foot and broke a toe. He receives as much relief and benefits as someone who lost an arm. Honestly makes me regret all the time I served.

I served a year in Afghanistan. Most people I knew over seas been ready for the war to be over. There was never a winning solution to end the war. If we could not get done what we needed to do in 2 decades then we never going to. At this point we just there to line corporations and contractors pockets.

I’ve served 16 yrs and had 3 deployments, including Afghanistan. The amount of coordination needed to make this kind of troop movement is overwhelming. He said no “hasty withdrawal”, but with only a 4 month timeline that’s best case scenario IMO.

If you start not fighting you will lose advantage. The European union can develop with no fight because the US is doing the fighting but if US stops then what is the answer to all the other systems that try to control the world?
