STUPIDITY EXPOSED: You cannot bring your own bag to certain grocery stores (Trader Joes), and the clerks must be extra careful and use gloves to touch any cash money you use, but the clerks touch every single product with their bare hands that you just handled to put in the cart or basket, doesn’t matter if you just sneezed or coughed all over your hands or the items.

An obvious question to research is the effectiveness of one shot of J&J vaccine plus one shot of either Pfizer or Moderna. A second question is, what about two shots of J&J?
We already know the effectiveness after one shot of Pfizer and Moderna. Science doesn’t work that way. You can’t automatically assume that duplicating a shot will make it more effective if it’s not designed to be that way. You can use different mechanisms to achieve the same results, so it really depends on how this vaccine works. Considering that it doesn’t have to be stored at the same low temperatures as the other, I would guess that it is very different. I doubt that they had a chance at greater efficacy with two shots and didn’t study it already.
Studies have been done, and they are all about the same after a second dose. The J & J vaccine is marginally better than the mRNA vaccines after one dose, and marginally worse after the second. J & J is filling an empty niche, those that are difficult to vaccinate.

That would be my preference, but this is better than nothing.
You won’t have a choice. If you’re wealthy or privileged you’l be able to get a hold of Pfizer or Moderna. Everyone else will be told that J&J is the only thing available.

@elijah miller J&J isn’t even approved for use yet. I’m speculating based on how everything else works in this country. That said, you do not have a choice. Whatever vaccine is available at the place where you can get an appointment is what you get right now.

I would assume those who live in rural areas, where the cold storage necessary for the mRNA viruses is not available, and cannot get transport to an urban vaccination center.
@Deborah Freedman BTW, J&J is an adenovector vaccine which means it’s a genetically modified DNA being delivered to the nucleus of your cells instead of mRNA being delivered only to the cytoplasm like the first two. The only other commercially approved use for this platform is a rabies vaccine for animals.

If it’s only 66% effective, it’s a waste of money.
If you can get one of the mRNA vaccines, sure. But, what if it is a hardship to get vaccinated, because you live out in the sticks? Because this uses an adenovirus vector, it does not need the extreme cold storage of the mRNA vaccines, and only requires one dose. The mRNA vaccines may be better, but the J & J vaccine is better than nothing. Without it, some people might not be vaccinated at all.

The first part of your comment is correct.
Sorry, its application should be denied. I understand the appeal of a one shot vaccine, but there is already so much mistrust and misinformation around COVID and the vaccine, the last thing we need is for too many folks to get seriously ill after getting it.
