While I understand and respect her take on the issue, which a good number of black Britons feel, I have doubt on how much blame of what happened in the colonies fall onto her. The sovereign is a figurehead. Mainly just a ceremonial position. If there’s any anger over what took place in the colonies, most of the blame would fall on the British parliament of the time. Also consider that during her reign, much of Britain’s vast empire had gained independence. Britain went from being a mostly white country to being a very diverse, multicultural country. No, I’m not saying that signs of racism doesn’t happen, but it should be seen as a sign of progress.
@Nishobi T. what, you think that without a monarchy we wouldn’t have anyone ruling over us? It happens all the time no matter what political system we use. The only thing is that they aren’t elected officials.
Eric Byarushengo, who’s government is it ? If it’s not his majesty and her majesty’s government? Who’ courts is
It, the monarchy has been the head of
Everything done by the British government, whether you accept this
Fact or not.
@Erick Byarushengo is it better to have our rulers imposed on us, or is
It better for us to elect them, by electing
Them we can also remove them, not all
Britons support the monarchy, some who were protesting were arrested, freedom of expression should be a fundamental right, for everyone to protest peacefully, to protest should
Not be a gift from the heads of state.
Read about Queen Anne
I think how to make it uncomplicated is this: Nelson Mandela. How he felt about her. Mandela held her in the highest regard. He called her Elizabeth, he did not use any title. She encouraged the use of her first name in respect of what he had gone through under ‘empire.’ Queen Elizabeth dismantled the empire creating a commonwealth whose name says it all. She was also, in part, Scottish. My ancestors were Irish, they were enslaved. Its time to be thankful for what we have in the HERE and the NOW. What did the British give us? The Magna Carta for one. Property rights for another. Abolishing of slavery for another; going so far as to board other countries slave ships and free the slaves. She worked tirelessly to help end apartheid. Yes, she dismantled what she had no part in building. It’s time we all work together and look at the slavery still happening in the world and the subjugation of humans, as well as animals, and focus our energies into that, instead of being distracted by what’s way behind us.
I think the story goes that Queen Elizabeth phoned Mandela and he picked up the phone and said “hello Elizabeth!” .
His wife horrified that he was calling the Queen by her first name said to him “you can’t call the Queen of England by her first name.” To which Mandela swiftly responded- why not? She calls me Nelson.
I don’t think she needed to give him permission to use her name, he simply saw himself as her equal which he was of course.
@DJM that makes for a humorous anecdote. The understanding between the Queen and Mr. Mandela happened long before his wife overheard that possible exchange. Mr. Mandela had “a wicked sense of humor,” one of the reasons he got on well with QEII, because she did too. She felt so comfortable with him that she once joked with him about her weight. So, when he came to the palace in 1996, he went up to her and said “Why Elizabeth, you’ve lost weight!” To which she burst out laughing. Mandela also had a special name for the queen – Motlalepul – which means “To come with rain.” An African endearment meaning Godlike; bringer of great blessings.
Nah, the royals need to PAY REPARATIONS
Good for you people. I don’t want any foreign man or woman to be my country’s head of state.
Very nuances answer. It is complicated. My country though was colonized by Spain and USA but we only sometimes have discussion about their colonization.
We need more naked conversations,in order to heal intergenerational trauma..
We need to learn our own history facts and recognize past mistakes..
Is a complex journey, and is not impossible to fix karma,if we are willing to go the extra mile..! 😔😔😔🙏🙏🙏
Balmoral castle in Aberdeenshire was built for Queen Victoria and was completed in 1856. It has been the summer residence of monarchs ever since.
The estate and it’s original castle was purchased from the Farquarson family by Prince Albert in 1852 and the original castle which was smaller was demolished and replaced with the castle that stands to This day.
The Estate covers approximately 50000acres of grouse moors, forestry and farmland with managed herds of deer, highland cattle (raggy cows), Sheep & ponies.
When the family is not in residence the castle and grounds are open to the public at specific times.
Tyler, you really do need to get yourself a passport and visit the UK.
Thank you for sharing it..It would be interesting at least for me to try to travel through time and space..
To be there physical and touch, see, feel, read the energy there..I do reiki and also are a psychic – medium and is nice to have this type of experiences when the Universe allow this to happen..
But to be honest my personal opinion as a psychic about the Monarchy is that eventually will be no Monarchy ..! But it will be a conscious decision later to take place, when is the right time..! 🙏🔥🌸💚💜
@Karen Lindley 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The British Crown handed over power to parliament in 1649.
I thought it was 1688-91 after The Golourius Revolution British Protestants Vs Catholics
Look as Brit who has African ancestry. I can say Rest In Peace to Queen Elizabeth 2. The UK is not hardly perfect even today but I’ll say this what happened to my ancestors I can’t change all I can do is make sure that every opportunity I get I take it with both hands and I make sure I work for the betterment of myself and my community.
Lol you are throughly colonized, aren’t you? Lol 😆
@Sc j Not as thorough as your ignorance…
I would just like to point out that the USA has bad history too, with regard to slavery in the southern states of America, so I think its a bit of a contradiction for CNN to be criticising Great Britain, its former Empire and the late Queen, who by the way certainly had no connections to Empire either.
We abolished slavery hundreds of years ago when you were all fresh off the boat from England. So, if you feel we still owe something, then you owe that as well as you are British ancestry from the time of slavery. You also abolished slavery hundreds of years after we had already done so, paid our reparations and we patrolled the high seas breaking up slave trade routes including yours. We paid through the nose for goods rather than trade with you who still ran a brutal slave trade, we forced you to finally abolish slavery when it hit you in the pocket. So let’s not kid ourselves, Americans were far worse.
@Heaven 7 Exactly. My great, great uncle was in the navy and they broke supply lines of slavers from the US shipping as far as the South China seas. They had pirates trying to board them to steal American slaves considered very valuable they had rescued to take to safe land. Real hand to hand stuff with blades. My grandad used to tell me the stories of the decks running with blood. It was a brutal time and the Americans were deep in it.
Melanisian brit of Fijian descent here. The royal family is loved by my family and many of my people back in my homeland. She treated us with so much love and respect. You can tell this by the way Fijians go out of way to show how much we love and appreciate her and her family whenever we have interractions with them. When the military regime took over Fiji, they removed her as our sovereign. But the people have never forgotten her and the special memories we have of her visiting our nation. In fact, I would be so bold to say she is more loved then the men who removed her as our Queen. Regardless of how you people in America view her, she is loved by many and we are sad to see her go. The world lost a little of its light when we lost her. May she rest in peace ❤
@thelobster good let me kno when the nation built lol 😆
You better be showing love to everyone you encounter not a monarchy who doesn’t know or care for you personally get real
@Fiona McGrath thank you so much I never knew they existed but oh my god I’ve never seen such gorgeous humans they’re so beautiful
@Adam L’Ecuyer you’re right cuz that’s what I assumed because I left the comment about it deleted it because someone mentioned to look it up and I did and oh my God they are so beautiful
“Black britons react to queens death”
There’s literally only one black person being interviewed and they’ve just generalized all black people in the uk here. I think it’s such a shame media makes everything about race.
@Linda Taylor I think would be good idea for you to read a couple good books: Legacy of violence/ Imperial reckoning(Detention camps) Sometimes you inherit a bloody empire, even when maybe you don’t agree in a personal level, but is a huge profit to benefit with innocent lives, through other sources..
Even when you are taking natural resources, land, over shadow indigenous people not in charge of key positions in their own land, controlling by outsiders and powerful people..
Sometimes we can be complicit by keeping silent, that way we don’t disturb OTHERS? Including our own people behind doors..
When you have power,a platform and a voice? Should be use equally,to protect the innocent lives infront of you, under the same roof, and also the people you claim to protect Worldwide..
Perfection is an illusion in the end,we all make mistakes and past them to others in some cases, when power gets transfer to keep wealth between family members only..
For me having a Monarchy is another way of oppression in a different way and out of touch in reality..
Power is never shared equally and even that “slavery” was out of the equation? Slavery is never gone in reality..Even in a democratic nation? We are still slaves in different ways, trying to break our “invisible chains” around our ankles some how..
Anyway you have a couple suggestions to read if you want course..
Have a great weekend and be safe..🔥🙏🌺
@Thomas Shelby if we were treated all the same we wouldn’t be having the conversation.
@splinterbyrd ok….
@To Jog or Not to jog you can look for it yourself, the internet is a thing now, or have you forgotten?
Lots of things have happened in the past that today, are deemed unnecceptable. But we have moved forwad. If everyone lived in the past and held folk responsible for their ancestors actions, how could relations ever improve. Do all Jewish people hate Germans and hold them responsible for the atocities that Hitler did………..No.
Do you think the fact that the Jews are paid reparations helps them to forgive and not dislike or distrust or perpetually hate Germans?
@JM Banko The British Empire has paid reparations 100’s of years ago. Queen Elizabeth was involved in abolishing The Empire as it was and creating the Commonwealth. England abolished slavery long before America, and refused trade with countries who continued with the slave trade.
Why can’t folk just admire a woman who devoted her life to service and duty and not drag us things she herself had nothing whatsoever to do with.
@Sue Head exactly!
She put her point really well. Pros AND CONS both need to be understood
Zain as always- brilliant.
Tf does race have to do with this, maybe just respect her for all she’s done so close to her death
This lady explained this so eloquently without anger and hate. She said what needed to be heard without starting a huge debate that would take the spotlight off the real issue. Bravo.
You could write a whole book on how black people relate or view the British monarchy, come to think of it, a whole library. A very complex affair.
I don’t think the right description is “the common wealth survives colonialism” The better description is “The crown survives modern times & morality about its history”
RIP with tranquility and King Philip. Love from a grateful nation. Service duty is still honoured in even in these modern liberal times🙏🏴🇬🇧
Very good upload! Zain Asher. This is the first time I’ve seen her or heard her speak. But I feel nothing but pride in the Job that she did in the segment. She came across as strong and powerful but yet there was a sensitivity there! 🙏🏿
People whinge about some bad things which were done by a small rich elite of people from the UK hundreds of years ago, yet those same people leave their own country and come and live in the UK. People in every country have done bad things to others in every other country since the beginning of time. You cannot go back hundreds of years and claim it affects your life today when it happened generations before you were even born.
Not if the systemic of it still exist stop it okay we’re not children speak like an adult
God rest our Queen, Long live the King
