Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson outlines the systemic discrimination in some new law enforcement technology, from new airborne surveillance above Baltimore to facial recognition technology that consistently misidentify the faces of African Americans five times more than the faces of Caucasians.

Is A.I. Racist? Police Under Fire For Controversial Tech Tools | The Beat With Ari Melber | MSNBC
This TECH was invented to search for terrorist .
A terrorist is a person who denies people free speech and freedom of religion and equal human rights. In other words, Don the Con AND Don the Con’s supporters and enablers.
I don’t know any black folks who think this guy is some leader for the black community. Most don’t even like this guy.
Well you don’t hang out in the same spot most likely.
I foresee an increased market for summer weight hoodies.
BTW London has the most surveillance cameras per acre than any where in the world. It is almost impossible to walk through London without there being almost continuous coverage. A few years ago they were working on body carriage and movement identification to get around people going into stores and coming out disguised.
America is now Germany of 1930s ,Donald trump is doing same thing , what Hitler had done with Germany.
Trump verbally trashed the city.
Elijah Cummings literally trashed the city.
@t
Want to solve crime problems (or migration problems, etc)? Reduce the inequalities! Simple.
But they don’t _want_ to solve the problem of crime. Doing so would create greater equality *for all.* And that goes against the twisted ideals of white privilege/supremacy.

Snoopy Snupe!
The Revered & Honorable Frederick Douglass had One Suit !!
A.I will take total control in five years humans have failed simple logic.
Wrong as long as i’m along.
thing is that any system that depends on a camera, will need light. people with darker skin necessarily need a bit more light to get a clear pix. its a lighting issue. this COULD be compensated for by writhing a software that , when it detects darker skin, it will jack up the “white balance, contrast and/or brightness. not saying this is good or bad, just saying that this would help alleviate the prob of missident. my2¢
zencat999 : Hmm, you make a good point about lighting. Being able to form a composite image from different angles of CCTV footage would also be very helpful. Maybe some equivalent of sonar or radar could be incorporated in poorly-lit areas to get a better sense of specific shapes and contours? I don’t know if that last one is possible; maybe I’ve watched too much Daredevil. 😆 It would potentially be useful, though.
the U.K. has CCTV cams all over the place. they have an incredibly low crime rate. most Brits are O.K. with them and even have them , themselves. nothing wrong with having cams, but if your going to use them to find and ident people, you had better make goddamnfucking sure you have the person you want and not someone else.
BTW….AI is artaficial inteligence. stress artaficial. and even now is NO substitue for thew human mind w/ its extra features of imagination, feelings and intuition. HAL was just a machine
I can’t wait til AI replaces humans. Those very things you mentioned are what make us truly awful creatures.
imagination, feelings, intuition is the main parts of what makes us human , and able to use this life for either death or life. no future in death.
BTW…feeling suicidal? im concerned.
To say the AI is racist is hilariously stupid. This is super super dumb.
I have nothing against black folks, but as a programmer that focuses on AI, the sheer lack of research in this video is just shameful.
Actually, you don’t know what you’re talking about, AI and advanced mathematical algorithms are already being used by many police forces, and they have clearly ingrained racism. I agree that this can be programmed out, or at the very least accounted for, but the fact is that this technology is already being implemented in ways that disadvantage minorities. You are making an intelligent assumption that the tech would be invented and tested first, and that racial bias would be removed, but that is not what has actually happened.
The challenge of racist A.I. has already been identified and observed. Training A.I. using racist data produce software that makes racist recommendations. This is a known fact and a trivial google to produce examples.
And then there is Microsoft’s racist, nazi chatbot.
Lol when the technology can’t properly identify blacks it’s not the tech that racist it’s obvious programmers like you are the actual problem. How stupid are you guys to not account for this obvious flaw?
@coptic777 it’s part of Being Human many time things aren’t obvious until after you do them. I suppose everything you’ve done your entire life was correct the first try though so it’s hard for you to understand.
The thing with this whole privacy argument is that it is easily solved by putting in place a strict legal system, for instance having a judge have to sign off on a warrant in order for any police officer or detective to see any footage at all. Also, you have just one person who has access to the footage, they would be bonded and if they leaked anything it’d be obvious who leaked it cause only one person would have access. That person receives a warrant signed by a judge and retrieves specific footage and sends it to the requesting detective for their case. All cities should invest in more CCTV camera’s and possibly tethered weather balloons that watch from above. Also, every citizen should have their blood type, DNA, fingers and thumb prints on record, including retina scan, and dental records. When bad guys go to jail, the good guy’s win and communities become healthier, happier, and more prosperous. It’s not a silver bullet by any means, but it is a good enhancement for any neighbourhood.
Tidbit : Easily solved in theory, but the legal system would have to evolve drastically to be able to pull it off. A great goal for the future, but unfortunately, I think the fairness and equality necessary to actually achieve it will be a very long time coming.
This guy is the one who is [actually] keeping it real, like when he tells Trump to stay away. (Also real is the way cameras work, it is very hard to get a detailed picture of anything dark when things around it are a lot brighter. Objects that are white reflect light, while dark objects absorb light…so dark objects are essentially an empty spot in the image. The systems using visible light for facial recognition will always struggle with people with darker skin, not because racism, but because the physics of light!)
We were able to see the Jussie Smollett attackers pretty well in the dark.
Prosecute the crime, regardless of race… and if the Black community is over-represented in the crime statistics, well, that’s on them…
Marius Thefaker Lol overrepresented in crime. Easy when you are the group who can openly commit your drug crimes and avoid jail and get treatment instead of jail THEN preach to blacks about following the law while you demand the laws don’t apply to you! During the crack era we heard all the speeches from you people NOW that we can’t throw a rock with out hitting one of you one meth or heroin commiting crimes it’s a “health issue” and that should not be prosecuted. Yea real easy to be overepresented in crime when you don’t have rules that apply to you.
@coptic777 I agree… prosecute the crime. Same crime, same punishment… regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, financial status, fame or political leaning.
So what seems to be the point here is that ai computes black people look alike so therefore ai is racist. Perhaps a solution would be if ai received diversity programming.
It reminds me of the “Minority Report”.
Reality can be racist. Democratist fanatics like the self styled news networks can’t comprehend that and will be left behind as technology advances in ways that are influenced by reality even as they create the unreal. We are seeing the death of this industry of psuedo news precisely because their ideology prohibits reportage with any relationship to the reality faced by real Americans in real America. The coastal elites cannot fathom a world beyond their walled gardens in the midst of a near literal zombie horde of their voters.
