Just after talking about how incredibly accurate these missiles are, they tell us that they could possibly stray thousands of miles off target.
Because if Russia were to attack a NATO member with it and NATO did not respond. NATO could say it strayed that’s why we have not retaliated.

Let us not forget the Mig that dropped it was already traveling over Mach when it released it. That takes stress off the missile that hits a spike at the start from a dead stop to motion which is the peak G force stage before it levels out on a gradual rising scale as it accelerates to its top speed. Being launched already from a speed above Mach actually eliminates the most fuel intense travel stage of the missile giving it further range than it would have otherwise if launched from a stationary position on the ground.

Russia is encircling enemy troops in various places, a standard Soviet tactic known as a “Cauldron”.
Right now around 60,000 Ukrainian troops are trapped in Cauldrons in the east.
The Cauldron around Mariupol is now beginning to have an impact.

Yes , very dangerous. Impossible to intercept, good way to deceive. Russian plans are very good. But in reality , terrible . Remember the “Russian Concorde” ? That one , that in his presentation in Paris broke in 2. The great nuclear plant, an example for the world in Chernobyl , that exploted. The best supersubmarine ever built the “Kursk” in the year 1994. With only 2 important missions in 2000 the submarine sank itself by his own torpedo. In Ukranie the tires of the tank carriers are getting flat . Bad roads , bad weather , civil resistance with no army experience , have stall the Rusian “Superpower” . Russia does not have the quality of the west. USA, Germany, U:K: they have a better missile in the works , but is not wise to advertise.
It’s intended to take down something big and well defended and important, right? Like an aircraft carrier. Against the ukrainian forces it’s pretty pointless. They can’t hit dispersed ground forces and if they want to destroy a hospital, the can just shell it. So, maybe they’re showing it off to tell NATO to back the F down. But I have an alternative, much dumber possible explanation.
This weapon system is the best they got, if by that you mean most expensive. (Second to nukes I guess.) And the war isn’t going as well as expected. So someone said “Why aren’t we winning? What capability aren’t we using? What, our best weapon is on the bench?! Deploy immediately our best and strongest weapon!”

The hypersonic missiles are still fired by a fighter jet that can’t travel as fast as the missiles themselves. So if you can target the jet before it fires, then it’s a useless weapon.

The missiles have huge capacity when blasted to reach a deep down underground target. The faster the missiles the harder the collision and the deeper damaging reachability.

Russia had a treaty with the AXIS countries at the beginning of WW2, though they switch sides and then of course contributed to the Allies greatly by the end of WW2.

The advantages of a hypersonic missile are many:
1. Speed. No time for the enemy to react (either leave or activate/track with air defenses).
2. Undetectable by radar. At mach 10, the temperatures developed (friction of air with the surface of the missile, almost 3000 Celsius) cause the air enveloping the missile to become plasma. Plasma is basically ionized gas which absorbs all electromagnetic radiation, thus rendering the object invisible to radar.
3. The kinetic energy at hypersonic speeds is huge. It is estimated that the kinetic energy of a Kinzhal is more than 4,000Kg of TNT, making it ideal to hit well fortified ammunition stores and command centers deep in the ground (compare this with its conventional warhead which has a weight of 500Kg). In other words, much higher penetration than conventional missiles.
4. The Kinzhal is air launched and the range stated is apparently the combined range of the missile and the carrier aircraft. Thus it is 2000Km when carried by the MiG-31K and 3000Km when carried by the Tu-22M3.

@Le Trop Chiant nobody can. If traveling at a substantial speed it gives off radiation. These missiles have to reach altitude before they can go hypersonic. So you have the ability to detect them and begin intercepting them with a fair amount of time. Like a goalie in soccer you can be much slower and defend a confined space vs trying to get past that confined space.
@Le Trop Chiant it’s maneuverability is dependent on it’s speed. G forces are real and don’t just affect the human body. So did this Russian missile pull a crazy maneuver you would see a fighter jet pull? Or did it just fly straight to the target after getting lifted to altitude by a mid-29 or whatever aircraft they used. Yeah it would be pretty crazy to see pulse lasers around the missile vaporizing the atmosphere making friction and maneuverability a non issue at Mach 10. Technically America already has a hypersonic glide vehicle able to launch independent missiles and hit multiple targets. Space x has done it. Anything in orbit is traveling at 7km/s which is like Mach 16/17 idk Mach 10 is 4km/s. And it can land on a runway. China overshot their target by like 2km. But if we’re talking about a missile that’s launched from a jet and not a damn space rocket. Then it’s quite different cause it’s one missile and is traveling through the atmosphere and has to maneuver through the atmosphere. But yeah if you have a gliding reentry vehicle with multiple missiles of it’s own then yeah that’s going to be quite difficult to defend. But I don’t think that’s what we saw Russia use unless I’m mistaken.

If it is undetectable by radar, how did they know it was used and fired by Russia?
As the first expert said, it is a good opporrunity to NATO to study this missil in real combat. I believe, they are using Ukraine to evaluate real Russia’s military capabilities.

Like most weapons and capabilities that Russia has hyped for the last 50 years Russias hypersonic missiles are a big yawn; these missiles are not new tech, it is old existing ballistic middle rocket engines fitted to a different guidance system and not the wave riders and ramjets the US is developing. truth is most weapons won’t be intercepted in rout to target. It’s the same old Kremlin false bravado. The only thing new is the hype around this.
What so many seem to miss is that the arms warehouse (depo) was build during cold war and is located underground so as to withstand nuclear blast. They used this hypersonic missile to penetrate the ground and the underground bunker thus showing that it can reach virtually anywhere

Isn’t it fairly obvious why they would use it? As Tony Stark says in Iron Man: ‘Find an excuse to let one of these out and the bad guys won’t even want to come out of their caves’.
He eluded that these hypersonic middles can be controlled manually, seems like a brief, hard to control endeavor.
Way back in the 1960s I was working Air Defense systems and out radars kept picking up trucks and buses on the highway 300 miles away. We now have over the curve of the earth radar. It is possible we can do a lot more than our leaders are telling us.
Why would they?? A lot of our US citizen’s have no idea what we have in the top secret arsenal. the weapons like the Javelen and others are just additional to some much more devastating weapons. as a former service member, I will leave it at that…

This was not used to take out the ammo dump building. This was a very visual demonstration of a weapon when armed with a nuclear warhead it would be unstoppable.

That can’t be right. The speed of a missile launched by THAAD defence system is over 8 mach. The Russian missile flies under the speed of 5 mach. And it’s been dropped by the jet at a very high altitude which makes it detectable by a radar quite early.
