Gordon Sondland, affirmed in Wednesday’s impeachment hearing that a key White House meeting between Trump and Ukraine’s new president was conditioned on the country opening an investigation into Trump’s political opponents.
“Was there a quid pro quo?” Sondland said in his opening statement to the House Intelligence Committee. “The answer is yes.”
Sondland emphasized that there was little mystery among senior White House officials that the meeting with Zelensky would only happen if he promised investigations into Joe Biden’s son Hunter and, separately, into a conspiracy theory that suggests Ukraine, and not Russia, was behind the 2016 election interference.
Sondland said he communicated to Mulvaney, Rick Perry, Mike Pompeo that he “told President Zelensky in advance that assurances to ‘run a fully transparent investigation’ and ‘turn over every stone’ were necessary in his call with President Trump.”
“Everyone was in the loop,” Sondland said.
Sondland also said that he believed there was also a quid pro quo attached to hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid that was supposed to go to Ukraine. Upon learning of the hold on military aid to the country, Sondland said, “I tried diligently to ask why the aid was suspended, but I never received a clear answer.”
He went on: “In the absence of any credible explanation for the suspension of aid, I later came to believe that the resumption of security aid would not occur until there was a public statement from Ukraine committing to the investigations of the 2016 election and Burisma, as Mr. Giuliani had demanded.”
@fran bran trump only said that when trump had full knowledge of the WB report, and what it said about him. He was making a pointless effort to deny the facts he had been jamming down sondland’s throat all summer long- that nothing moved until the quid pro quo trump demanded was met.
The WB report stopped *EVERYTHING* . The money wasn’t released until the WB report was. The blackmailed CNN press conference by the Ukraine Prez was cancelled the monent the money was released, because he knew he was announcing a lie forced by that blackmail by trump. The WH meeting was only scheduled *AFTER* the interview on CNN was booked.

Then why do they have to “study” the results of the hearings?
Trump’s strategy has been clear from the beginning. He and his sycophants in Congress are telling the American people to ignore everything that you see, and everything that you hear. That’s the only strategy you’re left with when you have no defense.
For me personally, I’ve always had a hard time ignoring facts, and it’s virtually impossible for me to ignore what’s right in front of my face, and I can see it with my own eyes. However Trump’s supporters have the uncanny ability to ignore facts and things that they can see with their own eyes, and hear with their own ears. They will literally ignore a turd (the turd representing Trump) that’s in the middle of their living room floor. They’ll hop over it, and walk around it all week, and just pretend it isn’t there.

I am an independent voter. I did not vote in 2016 because the squawking media kept saying “Hillary will win, Hillary will win.” I was infuriated I was fooled to stay home. Complacency clears the path for fascism, in my view. Very sad to see that we generally don’t value democracy more than we do. Or maybe we do deep inside, but too many people don’t realize that democracy can die, that democracy isn’t a natural state. We make it a democracy by actively engaging in the democratic process. I see this complacency in my country Sweden, too.

In Kentucky, (a deep red state) the governor was ahead by 5 points the day before the election when Trump came to campaign for him. He lost. Same in Louisiana, (another red state); states that Trump won by a landslide in ’16. Trump’s endorsement is the kiss of death.
