  1. These young soldiers are in their physical prime, but mentally. They are not ready for these type of atrocities. Whoever commanded him to do this inhumane act, needs to pay for this, dearly.

    1. @Rick C maybe your sarky comment rattled him ? Would you talk like that if he was standing in front of you?
      No I didn’t think so

    2. nobody should be put in this young man’s situation – he will live with the guilt forever

  2. When a manager starts to micromanage his company he lost it already. On different levels.

    2. @Nature and Physics it’s a nuclear power wake up from you lbtvq world bro there’s bigger things to worry about.

  3. At first I agreed with the soldier and only following commands, then I remembered a lesson from my time in the military. To the question of “what do we do if a superior orders us to do something illegal?” Response from the staff sergeant was to not do it and ask repeated confirmation, stalling basically.
Not sure how well that works under pressure, as the general here pointed out.

    1. @Jay Kellett you should read the true history of that comment. It is historically incorrect and wrongly repeated..

  4. I’m sure these Russian soldiers are put in a terrible position, but if “I was only following orders” wasn’t sufficient to excuse Nazi troops in 1946, I’m not sure why it would be here…

    1. We never punished foot soldiers for following orders only higher ups that really had some discretion in the matter.

  5. ‘Just following orders’ wasn’t a successful defense at Nuremberg; it shouldn’t be a defense in Ukraine.

    1. Eh, always keep in mind it is the EXPLOITERS (“bosses”) who deserve little if any leniency.

Depending on the details of the specific case, yes, if deserves punishment, but also to be viewed fairly in light of the specific circumstances. For example, most of the lower level people are heavily propagandized and may indeed have thought they were fighting for a noble cause. Even their direct commanders may well think that much of the propaganda is true.

Further, ask yourself: if you were being pressured by higher-ups with far more power who might, for example, even have sway to use your family, let’s say, as hostages… what would you do?

The people at the top, however, deserve no quarter. They should all be branded as wanted and tried at the ICC ASAP if caught. Further, I see absolutely no reason to not try to … remove any of them “from circulation” if possible … without a trial.

As a non-Russian, even if given the opportunity (0% chance of this), it’s a tricky call perhaps (meddling in that way in the affairs of another country and possibly giving them actually TRUE info to use in their propaganda, not that it’s likely to buy them much externally) … If I were Russian, knew what was really going on, and had the opportunity, I wouldn’t think twice if the target were high up enough … Even if they used it for propaganda (which they would).

    2. The only way I’ll accept “just following orders” is if these soldiers follow to a point—and then they try to stop following those orders or otherwise resist. And we’ve seen both happening with the Russians.

  6. Two things that come to mind, putin reminds me of Hitler towards the end of WW2. A corporal overriding his Generals. Also, My Lai Vietnam, war crimes with ‘ordinary’ soldiers killing innocent people.

  7. In our military by contrast, our members are trained to be thinkers as well as fighters. What Russian generals are tasked with; the US military gives those tasks to more junior officers.
But what the Russians really lack is a dedicated Corps of NCOs, the institutional glue of any military.
If Officers were the brains, and the Enlistees the muscles, the NCOs are the vital organs.

    1. @Sweet Kicker I don’t think US military care about collateral damages in recent wars. Look at what happened in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

  8. when your enemy is making a mistake, do not interrupt him.
Stop telling the Russians what to do or how to fight a war.

    1. @Alan Torres *MUTE=TRIGGERED RUSSIAN TROLL ALERT ⚠️ 📢 🤣I’M STILL HERE AIN’T I✊😎💯💪🗽🌉🌉🗽😂🤣😅*

  9. Nothing this boy says will bring back this innocent man. His Commander instructed him to shoot so he should reveal his Commander’s name and let him be charged too. The saying still holds true,”THE DECEIVER IS JUST AS BAD AS THE ROGUE.”

    1. @Mac Mcleod you decide to fight for your country that’s respectable. You follow orders because you must.
      No you shouldn’t be punished.
War crimes are a joke you want to punish someone go for the leader because we don’t choose to go to war.

But there’s never been a war without so called war crimes it’s a war it goes beyond reason and you yourself would also be found guilty.

But you all judge from the comfort of your home others fought for.

    2. @Alpha Delta No, you do not have to blindly follow all orders as a soldier. You can refuse to obey orders, failure to do so can end in a war crime trial if the order itself was illegal.

  10. There are many reports of russian commanders killing conscripts who don’t follow orders. It’s not just a possibility that he might get punished, it’s very likely that he gets killed by his own men if he doesn’t obey. Of course, that should not be an excuse for his deeds, but saying he could freely choose is just not true.

    1. Let’s get a few things straight here despite what these journalists – who aren’t journalists but rather are left wing activists masquerading as journalists – are yammering on about.

      1. Ukraine is not winning and is not going to win. Mariupol just fell, the south coast of Ukraine is 70-80% under Russian control, the land bridge to Crimea is there, and the land bridge to Transnistria is being built.

      2. Ukraine is not now and never has been a democracy. Zelensky has largely turned Ukraine into a single party state and arrested his opposition. Churchill did NOT do that so he is no Churchill. Ukraine is listed as the 8th or 9th most corrupt nation in the world. Ukraine is so corrupt that NATO didn’t want it as part of NATO up until just recently. That should make people wonder why so many politicians want Ukraine in NATO and have been so willing to push us to the brink of WW 3 for Ukraine.

      3. Ukraine being in NATO is not worth risking WW 3, a world wide food shortage, significantly strengthening China (who is our real enemy and not Russia), and risking the US dollar no longer being the world’s reserve currency over. If you think it is you either have a brain the size of a pea or a death wish.

      4. Tell Zelensky, Poroshenko, and all the other cheerleaders of this war to go fight the Russians themselves.

      5. Even in the darkest days of the Cold War at the time of the Cuban missile crisis you could explain (and would want to understand) the position of your adversary. You would want to know what he is thinking and maybe try to find a way to diffuse the situation. That is the opposite of what these MSM buffoons (and the buffoons here accusing everyone who disagrees with them of being a “Russian asset” or a “Putin stooge”) of doing.

  11. According to this report, Putin is doing the same as Hitler, sticking his beak into tactical affairs best left to those closer to the action and more qualified to judge and act upon it.

    2. @Acaelus Monsoon I generally would not recommend simply using Wikipedia but there is an entire articles on “Corruption in Ukraine” there so you can search that to begin with.

A big part of my “schitck” in my professional is “always, always, always check into the references”. In this case, the references are pretty food”. The Guardian is not a reputable news outlet but this left wing paper looked into the issue circa 2012-2017 with an article and a survey on the issue and they conclude that also. I say “also” as I could swear there was an IMF (International Monetary Fund) study on this issue and they came to the same conclusion a few years back. I am going to do a full search on them but it’s 1:30 a.m. so I will do a fuller search tomorrow and Sunday if necessary.

I hate seeing Ukraine and Ukrainians suffer so horrifically as they are doing now but much of the blame does indeed belong to NATO despite the fact that is a “heretical” viewpoint to many here in the West. It’s more evidence of how propagandistic many people have become and become unwittingly.

  12. This isn’t new however. Western, more specifically the US military utilizes a decentralized command structure which gives field-level command elements the ability to make decisions, whereas Russia (and old Soviets) use a more centralized command structure. This is evident in how this war has gone for them. They’re very slow to adapt to what’s happening on the battlefield and keep running into the same ambushes and getting air assets shot down in their same areas of operation.

  13. It is obviously not commendable that the young man, a soldier killed. It is though commendable that he expressed, repentance and accepted his accountability, responsibility of guilt. Beyond that the guilt of the military commanders who gave direct orders, having failed their troops. Unfortunate the tragedy of war, the lives lost.

    2. “I was just following orders” is no excuse to commit war atrocious. That was settled by the Nurnburg trails.

    3. Not only that but he understood that the widow wouldn’t likely forgive him. He was quite humble and as noble as can be after killing an unarmed elderly civilian.

    1. So we sit back and watch a bully repeatedly beat a kid senseless in the schoolyard. 🤷‍♂️ We’re what……giving the pummeled kid rocks to defend himself…..but like the typical person of today….everyone watches, takes video, makes money off the opportunity, but on the whole does nothing. If from the get go, we responsible peoples and nations lined up at the RU/Ukraine border, planted ships and subs on the north, east and south and said “NO SIR, YOU SHALL NOT PASS”…..this senseless loss of life, property and liberty could have been avoided. We have weak leadership all over this world and Putin just called everyone on it.
So until we stand up, as an organized no-bullshit power, Putin will continue to reek havoc. Now, as a war criminal and soon-to-be ousted world leader, he has nothing to lose. We’ve empowered him into the position of saying “Why not push the button.” So while brave service men and women fight and die daily, we “monitor” the situation. Nice. 🤷‍♂️
Surround him…..and insist he stop. No if, ands or buts. Stop. 🛑 Period.
God bless, pray for peace but be ready for all out war.
      🙏, T

  14. This is the best news we have had in a while. First the despot gets bad info from a corrupt military – because it is better to lie to him. Then he starts to get rid of those who tell him the truth. Then he decides he has to “do it himself.” Perfect. The more clueless he becomes, the better for his opponents.

    1. I remember during the opening weeks of this war, there were people all over these comments sections saying, _”oh, don’t believe the media, Putin is a strategic genius, Russia is winning and everything in this war is going just as Putin planned!”_
Those people seem to have quieted down lately.

    2. Hitler did the same thing towards the end of WWII. When the allies were planning to target Hitler himself, they decided not to go ahead, because it was better to let him carry on making mistakes than to have the German generals making military decisions on their own, which would prolong the war. That worked out best for Europe, because if the war in Europe had lasted three months longer, the third atomic bomb would have been dropped over Germany.

  15. The moment Hitler began making tactical decisions over his generals the Nazi war effort was doomed.

  16. I learned so much from General Hertling. I am always glad to read or see him on social media. He is a great guide.

    1. How ever this General has the idea that Zelensky will win this war !
A child knows that Ukraine is nearly finished, they only can continue with underground resistance.
Ukraine soldiers in the east are completely encircled, and cutoff of supplies

  17. Reminds me of Churchill’s comment on Hitler: “For God’s sake, don’t kill him! His stupidity is England’s greatest asset!”

    1. @Karaoglan Don’t we know it. So they could run around taking spoils and territory. Then they built The Berlin Wall to keep Germans from going to West Berlin from East Berlin, etc. What does Russia gain by turning Ukraine into wasteland? A highway, with checkpoints, to drive trucks from Donbass to Crimea. And government concrete-block apartments for the qualified. And GARGANTUAN statues of brawny women and men.

    2. @Lisa Mills the British did most of the hard stuff because they defended there allies for the sake of defending them not because of pearl haurbour.

    3. @The farm king My purpose here was to defend Ronald who had mentioned Winston Churchill and Karaoglan turned that into some nasty crap about British soldiers not being near Hitler at the time and it was the Russians or Soviets that took Berlin. And as I pointed out many countries troops fought valiantly against the Nazis and gave their lives including the UK and US etc etc. I am not here to discuss Pearl Harbour and the entry of the US into WW11. I am British by the way
