Millions are without power after Hurricane Ian blasted through Florida, destroying homes and flooding streets.
RELATED: Jim Cantore goes head to head with Ian's winds | USA TODAY
The death toll was rising and thousands of Floridians desperately sought rescue as historically powerful Hurricane Ian hammered the state with heavy rain and strong winds, one of the strongest storms in U.S. history.
The hurricane’s center made landfall as a Category 4 monster Wednesday afternoon near Cayo Costa, a barrier island just west of heavily populated Fort Myers in Lee County.

What happens when you build on s swamp. If there wasnt so many canals built, a decent downpour would flood areas quite often.

This was an extremely powerful hurricane. Almost category 5. I’m down at the south coast and got the mild part of it.
Prayers 🙏🙏❤️😌
Why is it that Florida gets hit by a hurricane and has days of coverage and help coming and Iowa gets hit by a derecho (land hurricane) that causes as much damage as this hurricane and we barely make the news or get support from the government?
With the greatest respect, HOW MANY TIMES MUST WE SEE THIS HAPPEN.
HAVENT WE GOT THE MESSAGE, THAT LIVING IN FLORIDA HAS TO CHANGE.
How many more hurricanes like this have to happen before we say ENOUGH.
We cannot afford to constantly rebuild after catastrophes like this.
If you CHOOSE to live in a place that is so vulnerable, we have to consider telling you DONT EXPECT US TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGE NEXT TIME.
This may sound BRUTAL, but reality often is.
It’s easy said than done. I do agree that levees and construction methods have to change to minimize the impact from future hurricanes especially in coastal areas
@M K Improved levees and construction methods would have LITTLE effect on a storm of this magnitude.
I should make it clear that, yes, it is possible to build an infrastructure that could withstand this hurricane, but the cost of such structures would bankrupt the NATION. And such structures would virtually DESTROY the landscape and the beauty that make Florida the beautiful place that it is
No wonder their buildings fall down like that one last year.
Check out the insane footage i took yesterday in the eye of the Hurricane of the weather channel Crew getting destroyed by debris
I live in North Carolina and now I can’t go to school tomorrow because of it. I didn’t think they were serious when they were talking about it earlier but I got a text from them saying so. Hopefully it won’t be too bad here
I am keeping these families in my thoughts.
May these lunatic Republicans see the graveness of climate change. They keep thinking that Nature is playing, but these families are going to face harsh financial burdens.
at the beginning that was the place we went for my great aunt’s funeral
