On the first day of 2021, President Donald Trump signaled a war to come within the Republican Party when he called out the No. 2 Republican in the Senate, John Thune. In this latest episode of The Point, CNN’s Chris Cillizza explains how Trump is creating a massive rift in the party (and why he could care less).

Hey, Chris here. Who do you think the GOP will nominate in 2024?
they are jockeying right now
Chris, so its hard to say, mostly because its too early. and who knows who all comes out to run. they need a dark horse candidate imo. the knowns are not going to cut it. they need someone to pull them together. they are almost as divided as dems are.
Is Ike Eisenhower still avaialble?
AOC!
Tenix – So, Ted Cruz?
Divide the enemy, looks like it’s going well
Divide and conquer that’s what China is doing to America

I doubt whether being a Trump loyalist is a winning strategy. He did lose the election after all. In 2-4 years it could prove to be political suicide.
@Ham Cake
I agree 100 %
We shouldn’t bow down to either.
There are more options.
It is still a winning strategy. Trump won the 2016 election, and he only lost in 2020 because of it being such a terrible year with the pandemic and the economic problems that its caused. If it wasn’t for that then he probably still would of been re-elected. Plus, Biden and Harris will probably have done a terrible job overall by 2024, so that could also play into Republicans as well.
Matt Dave gerrymandering and voter suppression is all just a liberal myth, and the only reason why Dems win the popular vote quite often is because of the most populated states and places in the country.
@NunyVanstta135 So what you’re saying is ‘Democrats only win the popular vote because more people want to vote democrat’.
Yeah, that’s how popular vote works, and it’s the only way to accurately reflect the majority of the people’s will (if they wish to vote at all, of course).
@Matt Dave Let me try to answer in reverse order.
The affordable Care act is not a right by any definition of the word. A benefit, a guarantee possibly afforded by a governing body but not a right. Being intimately knowledgable of the Healthcare profession I promise you, the ACA has done irreparable damage to the US Healthcare system, causing the closure of numerous rural hospitals, mostly city or county owned only to be devoured by large corporate health conglomerates, forced hundreds, if not thousands of Physicians into early retirement, causing graduating medical students to shy/RUN from private practice into specialities that promise high yearly earnings, shutting down countless EMS agency’s, delaying response times leading to needless deaths that could have been avoided. That was under Obama’s reign, not Trump. Please believe me when I say, I can go on and on for days providing irrefutable facts along the way about the destruction caused by the ACA. Ultimately the only real attack leved was against the individual mandate, which I’m my opinion was unconstitutional at best if not out right criminal.
Stand back, stand by can be interpreted many ways. A poor choice of wording can be a benign example. But you interpretation is your own and I can appreciate that. .
The support of “Peaceful Protest” is a guaranteed right under our constitution but that’s not what transpired last year. There were some, but by and large when the crowd was gassed, they should have been gassed. Once 1 brick is throw, 1 milk shake is tossed into someone’s face, it’s no longer a protest or discourse, its assault and that warrants a response be it by the police or the victim of the assault. Dont get me wrong, I’m not a Trump flag wavier. What I am is a free thinking individual who sees massive corruption being hidden by most media outlets. Political espionage on a universal scale surrounding these elections. The vitriol of terrifying proportions coming from the fringes of both parties, with only the “Right” side being illuminated while the “Left” is either ignored or blantily misdirected by the media.
Billions, that’s with a “B”, worth of damages to multiple cities in a little more than veering into violance.
Allowing the terminal coastal population tp dictate sole governmental policy, while spewing distain for any opposing opinion only leads to one conclusion and it’s not pretty. I hope that it’s not to late.
It’s the GOP’s own fault that they are in this mess. No better way to learn, than through the experience, though.
@Dudley Burleson the mueller investigation lasted from May 2017 and was concluded in March 2019.
3 years? Damn those “alternative facts”!
@fred smith the Mueller investigation was not the only investigation you morons did and the whole collusion hoax went on for 3 yrs and had 3 investigations. Hahah and you still have no shame and still you laugh at fox and believe every word the propaganda networks feed you.
@Dudley Burleson read the conclusion of the mueller report.
jpnewpic88.men
@fred smith the Mueller report found no collusion no conspiracy and no obstruction!! The whole friggn scam has been completely debunked!! You fool. The investigation was launched on a bunch of bullshit, nothing about it was ever true, not one thing. The dossier was a joke. The FBI committed the crimes and curiously the media didnt want to report on that.
12 years ago the Orange “Pied piper” was a Democrat and donor to the Clintons, President Obama’s first inauguration infuriated him and he changed parties…Republicans welcomed the nutcase with open arms, now they wish that they should have taken a Uber instead of letting him buy their last rounds
Trump and sycophants need to wake up from one thing only! America is NOT RUSSIA!!
Why are you guys still talking about Russia? You realize there’s infinitely more evidence for the 2020 steal than the Russiahoax, right?
America will be China when Biden gets in office
@Hugh Mungus nice Ajerican? NAMEO. YIUR EL JERKOUH
@iHaunt nubz you look like you need some
goodness. I’ve never seen such a thing like we have for the last 4 years. Please Georgia, we’re counting on you
Yes, counting on them to Vote Red.
They have only brought this on themselves, IMO.
Does anyone know what legislation did President Trump signed that made America great? Almost four years, i am not sure about the what?
I think he meant Make America Grate Again…😁
I’m *STILL* waiting.
Loyality in this case means kissing the ring and not the one on his finger …
Sen. John Thune is one of the 8″ Moscow Mules” who spent July 4, 2018 in Russia wishing Putin “Happy Independence Day “. Wasn’t that neighborly of him?
I wish we had some way of finding out what went on in Russia during that trip. There’s something up with that.
@keir farnum I always felt it was swept under the rug very hurriedly and neatly stamped down.
Absolutely awful seeing how so many of these politicians are playing politics for themselves and their careers, and not for the American people.
You just described the entire republican party
@Cartell Jenkins i hear ya. Next theyll say Biden is a Russian agent and hes illigitimate.

Imagine, having to deal with a pendemic and a trump in the same time…
thats what we have been doing! horrible
The GOP was warned about this . Now they have to deal with this.
They *made* this mess. Now they have to clean it up!
They deserve everything bad that comes their way!! They did this to themselves.
says the people who live in glass houses….CCPNN and it’s ilk suck
What, like lower taxes and better job opportunities?
Yes, they do deserve that! It’s a shame you idiots get to benefit too.
@Hugh Mungus I think it is less the republican ideology that is the issue and more the divisive politics and fear stoking they have used for a long time, heavily supported by groups like Fox news. It created the conditions for Trump’s rise, tapping into that fear and agitation. That said, the Democrats aren’t completely innocent of this themselves. Both sides of America’s political divide are very willing to demonize the other at this point which isn’t really a tenable position for a functional government. It is a shame that they can’t focus less on fear stoking and more on actual debating policy and ideology. There is too many attacks on the politicians themselves and not enough honest and accurate debates on actual policy and its pros and cons.
Toh yes

“Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.” Martin Luther King
The Republican party are Reaping what they have Sown.
True. Moscow Mitch made a deal with the devil.
He did miss the opportunity to say “crazy little thing called law”.
Why is Trump trying to buy “time”? He knows he’s lost so why the delay on getting on with it? He certainly has exposed our Democracy weaknesses to all the nations.
Putin needs America bitterly divided and at war with itself with professional experts at all levels of Government including Pentagon etc replaced by incompetent political sycophants.
Putin has never forgiven America for bringing about the fall of the USSR and seeks to rebuild it and destroy Americas economy and role in the world. Trump and his adoring followers are his Trojan horse and useful idiots
