How Colin Kaepernick Started A National Movement Years Before George Floyd’s Death | MSNBC

President Trump warning NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell players would be "disrespecting" the country if they kneel during the national anthem in protest to police brutality. The warning comes after Goodell admits he was "wrong" on the protests. MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhle reports on how Colin Kaepernick came up with the idea to kneel and gets reaction from former NFL player Donte Stallworth who says the NFL “had an opportunity” to defend its players before, but “instead chose to stand with the President of the United States against its own players.” As Goodell now admits he was “wrong,” Stallworth says “words are good start” and hopes the league will now “shield the players from the President.” (This interview is from MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber, a news show covering politics, law and culture airing nightly at 6pm ET on MSNBC. ). How Colin Kaepernick Started A National Movement Years Before Floyd's Death | MSNBC

  1. *Kaep:* There’s a lot of things that need to change. One specifically? Police brutality. There’s people being murdered unjustly and not being held accountable. People are being given paid leave for killing people. That’s not right. That’s not right by anyone’s standards.
*Reporter:* So many people see the flag as a symbol of the military. How do you view it and what do you say to those people?
*Kaep:* I have great respect for the men and women that have fought for this country. I have family, I have friends that have gone and fought for this country. And they fight for freedom, they fight for the people, they fight for liberty and justice, for everyone. That’s not happening. People are dying in vain because this country isn’t holding their end of the bargain up, as far as giving freedom and justice, liberty to everybody. That’s something that’s not happening. I’ve seen videos, I’ve seen circumstances where men and women that have been in the military have come back and been treated unjustly by the country they have fought for, and have been murdered by the country they fought for, on our land. That’s not right.
August 28, 2016 – the day he first took that knee.

  2. I HAVE THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR COLIN KAEPERNICK.. The man showed his Morals and Values could NOT be bought.

    1. @Jeffrey Dahmer If Republicans would stop raping and impregnating our daughters they would grow up with daddy’s.

    2. @Jeffrey Dahmer Its less than HALF DEAR. Even so, who cares? All kids are legitimate to God!!!! The real GOD/DESS!

    1. @Jeffrey Dahmer Yes, coming from a fake stable and happy home like yours, with both parents in tow, and still managing to commit extremely HEINOUS MURDERS – SERIAL KILLER!!

    2. Kaeperknick can’t hang in the NFL…

Not talented enough, and a cancer on any organization…

The nfl owners and coaches are smart..

    3. @Drake Fire Kneeling, when one is not supposed to, “represents”
      militant “turdism”…👈😏….

    1. @Bud Fudlacker, no I wasn’t even born yet, but my grandfather did. Did you serve? What’s the point of the question?

  3. so taking a Knee was first done by MLK as a way to respectfully protest…what better example can you have.

    1. The US attitude to this always confused me ,having lived in the UK most of my life where taking a knee / bending the knee is seen as a respectful thing ,and has been for centuries.
It’s been used by “noble” and “peasant” alike to signal ultimate respect and fealty. So I could never understand the outrage such a respectful gesture created.

    2. Evilroco sheep mentality, lord trump said it was bad so that’s how the population saw it

    3. Evilroco yes I agree ,I’m also British and have the same opinion, obviously it’s down to Trump, so sad 😞.

  4. Colin Kaepernick did his homework and sought advice before he took the knee. That shows respect, and courage, and what did the NFL do? Blackballed him, and now Goodell REALIZED that he and the rest of his goons were wrong — FOUR YEARS LATER? Where’s the apology and giving credit to Kaepernick for fighting for what is right?

    1. @Peter Wysochanski A better way ?
There will never be a better way to protest , when you’ll find one let us know, people like you will always find something to say !

    2. @Tigreblanc 77 Ignoring the devisive nature of the protest is a prescription for failure. I’ve already suggested possible ways that might have been better. Waiting until the Anthem was completed? I bet CK could have found a Green Beret who thought that would be a better idea? Alert the press and make the protest for a minute after? Didn’t Ray Lewis do something that was different? By alienating “you people” you cast out many that see the need for reform but are off put by the tactics. The leftist tactic of labeling me as a racist/nazi/bigot/fascist is not productive.

  5. I can’t believe we are still dealing with this, kneeling has been a sign of respect for many years under numerous circumstances, the president has nothing to do with the NFL

    1. “The only place a black man should be allowed to kneel is in a black church” -racists everywhere

    1. Toward Treatise https://youtu.be/Aas3YQKIFeY at 10:18 someone is wearing a hat with the American Flag on it which, from what a retired Vet told me, is a violation of American Flag Etiquette. The American Flag is not to be sewn on garments or worn as an article of clothing. Here is a link for American Flag Etiquette https://www.military.com/flag-day/flag-ettiquette-dos-and-donts.html I suggest you read it before you condemn others for disrespecting the flag.

    2. Jay Jones well then what is the point of them clapping for his statement of wearing the flag in black support of Trump’s presidency? Why even read the rest? Check out blexit btw. I’d rather operate by common sense, freedom of speech, and the basics of the Constitution I respect for its wisdom far beyond federal socialism and the proven path of the equality of mass self destruction.

    1. @Joe_Anroy You literally made no sense what so ever. He wasn’t a politician nor president of the USA 🙄🙄🙄What does that have to do with dodging the draft when he was eligible to serve. Maybe you should try using your brain harder.

    2. @Tech ti Of course he Kap took the knee before trump became president but that didn’t stop trump from lying and saying it was about insulting veterans, the flag and the national anthem. It was never about any of that and he knew it. He also knew he could say and claim anything and his followers would believe him over the truth and they did. Terrible leadership right in front of us.

    3. he was hiding behind his mom’s skirt crying he could not serve becoz of bone spur, the liar hypocrite and to think he stuck it to john mcaine

  6. I dont think Kaepernick will even considet going back. His heart is too much worth to play again for this demonic league.

    1. He’s been trying to come back, and even had some tryouts, but he lost to much body mass since he went vegan.

    2. I hope he doesn’t. I feel like he will get serious hurt and won’t be protected, on the field, by a lot of his white teammates ….and probably some black teammate because of jealousy, 🤷🏽‍♀️I’m just saying.

    3. That AND.. He’s just not good enough for the NFL and in a league where consistentcy is king, ck quite frankly was one of the most inconsistent QBs the 9ers had ever seen

    1. You know Kap took that knee before Truml took office right? All this, on what going on has been happening for years. Crooked politicians are just blaming Trump

    2. Of course not, divide and conquer has always been his way. It is an effective tool of oppression.

    3. These crazy anti conservatives, liberals are always right,it is their way or riots will be done don’t want unity.

  7. The NFL commissioner need to publicly apologize to Colin Kaupernick and reinstate him. Enough of the bs and we need to boycott the NFL until this happens!

    1. 🙌🏾 THEY NEED TO PAY HIM FOR ALLLLLL THEY STOLEN FROM HIM💕🙌🏾❤💥 which no amount of money CAN PAY..GOD ISSSSS SOOOO AWESOME..

    2. reinstating him ain’t that easy with all these controversy but induct him into hall of fame be good start…

    3. Screw Goodell. Too little, too late. Who needs to play for the greedy self centered PINK EUROPEAN ALBINO(aka palefaced white man).

    1. You have ALL just witnessed the police, kneeling WITH us, Protesting WITH US, PRAYING WITH US. Doing it peacefully, while respecting the flag, is WHAT the MILITARY fought for. They set a fine example, which should NOT be hijacked by trump. ALL POLICE want to see brutality END. All except the ones who need to GO.

    1. He has no job because he is not a good player. Plain and simple. Murderers and rapists are playing because they are good.

    2. @Spencer Reynolds Father, I pray that you will saved Spencer and give him love for people that will help him to apply the golden rule. In Jesus name !

  8. Trump, a Patriotic lol Only thing he cares about is himself and only acting to wild up his base.
