5-10 years ago it was worse than now and he contributed at the time.
@Charlie Clemens their point is the opposite. They are saying that 10yrs ago things were more racist.
And they would be right, we had an openly racist president ffs.
@Humbert Smith yes, please stay constructive even when we disagree. We can only learn.
I’m glad Bill is over, but as someone who’s job it is to explain politics he’s been awefully slow on catching up to this. The woke ideology has been around since around 2012.
I made the same mistake in my head, thinking ~2008 is 5-10 years ago. It just isn’t.
He lost viewers so he’s changing his view.
Spends his career supporting the left now complains that we got here. It’s your fault Bill
Maher still doesn’t really define it. He just slaps the label on things he finds disagreeable.
@Dean Todd Who do you think you’re talking to and why do you think you’re in a position to lecture me? You don’t get to tell me what to say, how to conduct myself or anything else. I can be as obnoxious I wanna be. I can be as humble as I wanna be, and I don’t need your permission. So let me know when you decide you wanna make this personal, and if you wanna argue, you’re going to have to change the subject. Capeesh.
@Theodore Haskins
I can plainly see that you can be as obnoxious as you want to be. 😆
But good on you, mate, for dropping the passive-agressive false humility and instead openly showing your true colors. I’m proud of you! 😆
@Dean Todd Okay let me clarify something here. We’re not gonna do this back-and-forth thing. So as far as I’m concerned, this conversation is over.
@Theodore Haskins
Hahahahahahaha! 😆
Have a nice evening, Mr. Humble.
The term is used by different people to mean different things than what it was originally intended to mean. That adds to the divide. Having a society that can’t agree if definitions will cause alot of ideas to be conflated with what is or isn’t said. It’s sad
Why tf do we assume Maher is the spokesperson for defining “woke”?
@Andrew Torrens everyone is acting like a little girl instead they could just act like men.
@Gamevidz why do some people thing being a man is taking bs over and over
@Gamevidz why do some people thing being a man is taking bs over and over
@N B You wrote that whole sentence wrong.
He definitely missed it. He went downhill ever since he was called out for thi nuking he could use the N word
We tend to forget that our forefathers struggled to build a better democracy, recognizing their own shortcomings. We, like them, may not see our own limitations & shortcomings, & future generations may rip our names off statues.
Thank you for asking that question. I am so confused by the meaning of this new made-up term. Some people say it means “black,” others say it means”Democratic.” And still others say it means socially conscious and compassionate.
It’s a shame he didn’t answer it. My understanding of the origin of the term is that it’s about being willing to see some unpleasant truths, see the world from more than one perspective, and generally stopping the shaming and silencing that has been done for centuries.
People often complain about someone getting into trouble for something they said 20 years ago. Often, though, often people who say stuff like that publicly still hold on to a lot of those beliefs. Also, if the person had come forward 20 years ago when it happened, they could have been ignored, fired, shamed, or even beaten and killed. Just look at how Monica Lewinsky was bashed by the press and the late night hosts, while Clinton practically got a pat on the back.
Most people hear someone complaining about “wokeness” and what they hear is someone who is afraid that the world is moving on without them. 🤷♂️
Thank you Bill
Jesus of Nazareth was the most woke human in history!
He asked a joke to define woke.
Saying that destroying statues is liberalism is like calling Marjorie Taylor Greene a conservative.
The comment section is full of people who can’t handle this at all. Either so far right you think Bill is the definition of woke, or so far left you think he’s become a gop spokesman. Face it, if you think that way, you’re extreme. And you’re part of the problem he’s talking about.
Why wouldn’t liberals like Abraham Lincoln? I don’t understand. He abolished slavery and he was gay
Don’t let the right change the dictionary definition
My wife asked me today what “woke” means. I said as far as I know, it’s not clear. After this non answer, I’m more confused than ever. I do know what “slept” means, though…
He really doesn’t understand the definition of “woke”
Well, he did define where the term “woke” started and how it “Morphed into an eye roll” in this full interview. This clip does the full interview an injustice.
Have you noticed; it’s mainly the entertainers who are in such an uproar about ‘woke’ culture
Their daily broadcast day is “how CNN defines Joke “
