Hong Kong cracks down on pro-democracy activists

Several high-profile pro-democracy leaders were swept up in a series of arrests in Hong Kong, ahead of what will be the 13th consecutive weekend of mass protests in the Asian financial hub.
Activist Joshua Wong, who led the city's massive pro-democracy protests in 2014, and former Legislative Council candidate Agnes Chow were arrested on Friday and Andy Chan, the leader of a banned pro-independence party, was detained by police. In total, seven were arrested in connection with past protest-related offenses, police said.

    1. davids13: How’s, “lock Her Up,” going? Still a free woman? After THREE YEARS? It’s almost as if Trump tricked you and you’re just too EMBARRASSED to admit it? Mueller Time is still coming, son. “We shall never surrender.” But YOU will, COWARD 😁

    2. brian gardner : That’s EXACTLY what YOU are doing, IDIOT! You can’t beat China at their own game. We could have OWNED them, by now, if it wasn’t for Trump, kicking America in the BALLS repeatedly. You Communist Stalinist, twerp 🤣

    3. Colin Faust : Says the, “obsessed,” girl, who LIVES on CNN, clutching her pearls and having the vapours, like a Nazi Sycophant 🤣😂😆😂🤣

    1. @Jones Jones Most of them have refugee background, so it’s cool for them to protest. You know, that’s not their country😷

  1. President Xi doesn’t care until 2047 and bad business in Hong Kong means better business in Shanghai. But, enjoy your dream world.

    1. @A G don’t underestimate the kid tho, he might not be a good “president” now but in the future people might consider voting for him, if hong kong ever has a real democracy that isn’t controlled by a shitty communist government ofcourse 🙂

  2. Beijing better stays out of this. Let HongKong people deal with their own problems, including their water and electricity supply, food, etc.

    1. @RavenclawSpb Tukestan was clamed in Tang, Tibet, inner Mongolia and Amur was clamed in Yuan, it’s their historical territory and they remained their shape in a thousand years. The principle of five equal races had been put forward before the KMT came to the power, and 50 years later CCP also made a self govern priciple. As I know, Han really don’ give a fxxk about other’s races ’cause most of the people from these 56 races have the same looking.

    2. @RavenclawSpb If you wanna say sth. about China, at least do some research of Ming, Qing and Republic. Trust me, you’ll find some different anwsers.

    3. @RavenclawSpb And, there’s no racial massacre anymore after Qing. The only thing after that was that they let Muslim to raise pigs during the “great” culture revolution.

  3. Hong Kong , Kashmir . Northern Ireland.
All places invaded and stolen by the English then left in a mess once the English have murdered, stolen and divided a country.

  4. Joshua Hoang has a Vietnam war refugee hintergrund, he’s not a Chinese but a mixture of Vietnamese and Cambodian from someway. That makes it easy to explain everything.

    1. he was born in HK. Where did u get that info. Even if it was true, So what. He lives in HK, his fellow protesters are HK citizens who support him and see him as leader. He is fighting for freedom and against authoritarian rule. What have YOU done with your life aside, from condescendingly commenting on Youtube.

    2. @Chris Bellen Aha, another guy who regards throwing bricks and molotovs, using lasers, attacking old man as the fight of freedom. Comparing with Josh who got in jail for a couple of times but had never forsake his demand of “freedom”, I did almost nothing in his age. But I did experienceed the chao in the HK airport, I was there while they were kicking a guy also in black, I was there while they were insulting SWATs. That’s what I have done and also the reason why I have a different idea.

    3. Joshua is Hongkong people or Cantonese background.. like the rest of Hongkong people they don’t want to be chinese .. 😆

  5. Joshua, what about protestors brutality?? The madness you have brought have protestors just hacked a off work policeman. How not to clamp down?

    1. Commie police deserve to get hacked. Those same police use torture, rape, and murder against thier own people to control them. It’s about time they get hit…

  6. I believe in this statement:

At often times , a group of people would come together and organize on an idea. And it would be a pretty good idea. But once that idea starts gaining leeway such as obtaining political leverage , gaining more popularity and influence and adopting power. The idea would slowly lose its meaning and legitimacy , thus instead of fighting for the agendas and principles of the idea, it exists only for being promoted. And that is what these protests are becoming. They have lost what matters like proper reasoning and valid justification to why Hong Kong *should* be granted independence. (Especially after the protesters threw petrol bombs and bit off the finger of a police and even blocked tourists at the airport)

To summarize a bit , the Sino-British Joint Declaration signed between Britain and China , states that in 50 years since the Declaration is signed , Hong Kong would go back under Chinese rule. And in those 50 years , the fundemental freedoms of Hong Kong must be protected *but Hong Kong is also given this time to adjust back to Chinese rule* . Not riot and protest like crying children.
    .
And to top everything off , *the fundamental freedoms of Hong Kong have not been suppressed or removed by China*

  7. Joshua Wong wants to get a green card. This is his main objective hence he went to see the US government.
