HON. IAN DOUGLAS PROMISES FORMIDABLE LINE-UP FOR THIS YEAR’S WORLD CREOLE MUSIC FESTIVAL

As Dominicans celebrate Reunion Year this year on the occasion of the country’s 30th anniversary of the attainment of political independence, Dominica’s Tourism Minister, Hon. Ian Douglas has promised a formidable line-up of artistes for the 12th edition of the Annual World Creole Music Festival.

 

Speaking at the Media launch of the event at the Fort Young Hotel, Hon. Douglas expressed confidence that the package put together for this year’s festival by the new Dominica Festivals Committee would appeal to patrons at home and abroad.

 

“This year’s line-up is a formidable line-up of top quality acts from across a diverse range of music forms and idioms,” Hon. Ian Douglas stated.

The line-up for the three nights of pulsating rhythms carded for Friday, October 31st to Sunday, November 2nd 2008 at the Windsor Park Stadium in Roseau  includes Kassav,  Sean Paul,    Nasio Fountaine, Machel Montana, Midnight Groovers, Tabou Combo, Djakout Mizik,  Triple Kay, Grammacks (with Jeff Joseph and Ophelia), Swinging Stars, Belles Combo among others.

 

In anticipation of the return of thousands of Dominicans and tourists to Dominica for independence this year, the Tourism Minister highlighted the treats and delights scheduled to take place in Dominica in October:

 

“Let the world know then that the place to be this October is the Nature Island. You will be fascinated by our music and other cultural talents, as we highlight and give greater meaning to our Reunion Year celebrations. From the independence cultural festivals in villages and towns across Dominica, to the exhibitions of our local produce; the programmes of Semaine Kweyole(Creole Week); Creole in the Park; the many village or community Reunion activities; Creole in the North and Creole in the East; Wob Dwiyet Competition; King of Kings Calypso competition, and so much more.”

 

Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival has become one of the signature events in the Caribbean Festival calendar based on sustained visitor arrivals, media coverage and the reputation of the festival among artistes.

 

In the last eleven years well over 260,000 patrons have travelled from  Martinique, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Francophone Africa, USA, UK, Seychelles,  Canada and other parts of the Caribbean to the now undisputed Mecca of Creole Music- Dominica  for the Annual World Creole Music Festival.
