SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, Monday February 4, 2013 – A manhunt for a fugitive driver was launched on Friday in Puerto Rico after an apparently out of control vehicle struck and killed two women and four children.
The group was run over after they alighted from a bus and started to walk towards a public housing complex in the Rio Piedras suburb of the capital, according to police.
Col. Eliezer Colon Flores told the press late on Friday that one of the women who was killed in the carnage was the slain children’s grandmother.
Eye-witnesses reported that the car was speeding and lost control. They looked on in horror as the vehicle jumped over a small median, slammed into another car and then ploughed into the women and children, who were attempting to cross the road in a designated area.
The couple in the car that was hit was also injured, according to police.
Colon told reporters that the suspect, who was said to have been accompanied by a passenger, fled the scene of the accident.
