Hillsborough stadium disaster verdict smashes families of victims

Former police superintendent David Duckenfield has been found not guilty of gross negligence manslaughter in the deaths of 95 Liverpool supporters in the 1989 Hillsborough stadium disaster.
Duckenfield, now 75, was the match commander when a crush at the FA Cup semifinal tie between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest led to the deaths of 96 Liverpool fans.
After hearing more than six weeks of evidence, the jury of seven women and three men returned the not guilty verdict after nearly 14 hours of deliberation at Preston Crown Court.
This was the second time Duckenfield has faced trial over the disaster. A jury was unable to reach a verdict earlier in 2019.

  1. Shouldn’t the event operations, facility management companies have responsibility? Why would it rest on just one individual?

    1. @Drako-shi opening the gates was to stop a crush outside, those people were coming in anyway, the problem was the 2 centre pens, they had been full for 30 minutes and no one seemed alarmed for the majority of that time, opening the outer gates was not the cause of the disaster and can never be proven so, it may have been a factor but i would have opened those gates in the same circumstances, the problem for many is they think opening the gates caused the crush directly, it didnt, the problem was before opening the gates and regardless if they were open or not, both centre pens should have been sealed off with police and stewards directing people to the outer pens, this didnt happen as had happened the year before, this is what caused the crush, people entering into an area fenced off at either side and the front, with no way of turning back, if duckenfield was responsible for sealing off the centre pen then he didnt do his job but police inside the ground failed to see the crush and failed to see people in distress till it was too late. they should be answerable also those that covered up the truth, altered statements, blamed liverpool fans, distorted the truth should also be charged.

    2. @alrafter what crap, they were coming in anyway, and entered a packed pen, where they were crushed, they should have been directed away to the outer less full pens but wernt,

    3. @Michael Duckworth when you have time could I direct you to other places, perhaps you will find time to berate people at funerals with grieving parents that you could direct your laser accuracy to give them your personal opinion of the deceaseds culpability.

    4. @B Bodziak honestly, as a real human being your absolute contempt for people’s feelings real loss and death of loved ones is refreshing on a site like YouTube. If only more people could find some sort of happiness via an anonymous avatar by slandering dead people.

    1. Thomas Michael I know!!! That’s more than a generation! That’s crazy. Can you imagine how many people who started the case are dead now?

  3. Thirty years for the wheel of injustice to revolve. Thirty years of incurring teams of lawyer fees. A career for most lawyers. A bonanza for lawyers and their staffs. Thirty years of defending the indefensible bought the lawyers and their staffs nice houses while some of the 96’s families are still and always coping with their biggest loses. Shakespeare was right!
