@Izzi Michaels If you want what John Adams said on the Rule of law, I will copy and paste it for you. But on to Nixon. That is a VERY LONG story that I couldn’t possibly type in this space. But a short summary is: Although Nixon’s crimes were different from Trump. Congress did Impeach him. It started in Oct of 73 to investigate him for high crimes and misdemeanors. Nixon gave edited transcripts of his tapes. But Congress wanted all. And the Supreme Court ordered Nixon to comply. There were several levels of courts involved in these impeachment proceedings. Also the ACLU called for his impeachment. Some 1,250 transcripts in full were released in April. Nixon was charged with Obstruction of Justice: Abuse of power and Contempt of Congress. By August Nixon resigned.He was also losing his support in Congress because everything became public. If you want the story in detail and how it played out and more information on the tapes (and it is quite interesting) go to Ask.com type in your question for Nixon Impeachment then read Wiki-pedia (one of the sites that cover it.) As I said it is very informative and in detail. I was in my twenties at the time and watched it all unfold. As far as I am concerned Trump meets the criteria of the exact articles of Impeachment that Nixon had put against him.
@Patricia roe my comment “explain nixon” was rhetorical. im very familiar with nixon his crimes and his cheerful waving as he flew off in marine one. i also recall ford pardoning him. perhaps i should have said “explain how nixon paid for his crimes”. i was being facetious, pointing out that nixon was above the law, as are most high level officials, especially the potus.
@Izzi Michaels He paid by being impeached. But you are right there were no criminal charges filed against him after he left. As far as I am concerned, if they don’t get Trump on his taxes, Impeaching and Removing him from office will suffice for me. Before he can do any more damage. Because he and Barr “are” inviting foreign countries to come in through the back door and influence our politics. It is a road this country does not want to go down.
@Patricia roe i could not agree more, Patricia. in fact i feel that trump (and his various cohorts) is / are the single biggest threat to our nation since the civil war. i truly fear for our democracy. trump should not only be removed, he should be made an example of. but to my original comment, i just dont think there will be any justice. perhaps some low level co-conspirators like another cohen / manafort will do trumps time, but trump will likely not see the punishment he deserves.
