They should be practiced. Between October and April where I live, it is non stop storms with flooding and power outages. It’s routine.

As an electrician that’s extremely unsafe for her to be even near those power lines. She should never assume if they are dead. She could be grounded and get shocked if lines were live touching the ground. Very unsafe!

The news crew contacted the power company to see of they turned off the power. The power company usually shuts off the power in areas where they know power lines are down so that any snapped lines don’t kill anyone. That’s more theater from CNN …they’re trying to make themselves look like they’re brave tough reporters when they know the power was cut off by the LP&L …or whoever is the poser company now.
@hadees The power company shut off the electricity and CNN knows it. It’s theater. That’s right, the power company shuts off the power in bad areas and they do no turn it back on until they cleared all the power lines to make sure none of them are breached or snapped.

My dearest condolences to the family/friend’s of the person who just lost their life due to a tree falling on them.. I’ve done tree work most my life & have seen a lot of bad accidents from falling trees/limbs that come down right on top of people… You just honestly can’t do anything fast enough to get out of the way in time because it happens with such quickness/force that even the best trained/top tier professionals can move fast enough to get out of the way & they are actually waiting for something like that to happen to them, so if they can’t out of the way fast enough then regular people definitely couldn’t either… Which further proves that no one can outrun a falling tree/limb especially during a hurricane & if you get stuck in it’s war path it will instantly show you how fragile we humans truly are…

One thing I learned from speaking to people while helping them rebuild after Katrina – the storm and water doesn’t care if you stay or leave. The storm will do the damage if you are there or not. Don’t be there for the storm.
