Mounties on Vancouver Island have publicly identified the two gunmen killed during a shootout with police at a bank in Saanich on Tuesday.
The suspects were 22-year-old twin brothers Mathew and Isaac Auchterlonie, the BC RCMP's Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit confirmed at a news conference Saturday morning.

motive not determined ,,, could it be they wanted the money?
Yeah but money for what, exactly?
@J. D. Hard to feel the ‘juice’ when you’re dead on the street, as in the movie.
β@David Allison Of course.
Reminds me of that jewelry store armed robbery in Parksville a few years ago. It’s a mystery why the island seemingly produces these violent criminals, and without warning out of the ground.
Weird.
@Rebecca Chapman It’s called MKUltra
@XXXOD MK Ultra ππ€£
Drug addicts.
If you want to be a yahoo no better place to go than Vancouver Island.
There is literally a law and order SVU episode like this.
double trouble
Urban Hellraisers
CSI Miami
Really? Was there a manikqin in the show to ?
There’s picture’s of a Mannequin dress like a Robber it’s the same picture of the Dead guyπ€
We are still looking into the motive of the armed robbery….Um..perhaps money…
Youβd think. But the witness said they had lots of time to leave with the money and didnβt.
@Chemo Boy – DannyPheleps they were still counting.lots of bills in a stack.
Needed to fill their gas tank.
Robbing a bank? Who robs a bank nowadays? Did they try to get away on horses?!
they would never have got caught either ;cept there was a mask malfunction
@tim mullins They were wearing vests. Probably taking their time. Probably hoping for a shootout.
LMFAO. Yes! I thought the same thing when I heard about this.
They could have used cops like these down in Uvalde Texas a few weeks ago.
It was not a bank there was no money at stake
So sad for their families. What a waste of their lives.,
Yup, poor kids… what 22 year old plans and executes an armed robbery?
ones that messed up.
Very sad. Simpletons will blame the parents as though they could control their every action in life.
@Theresa75 they were 22, to blame parents would be redundant, as they were their own male adults, fully capable of making their own decisions.
further investigation needed to determine motive. πThey were at a bank.
It’s certainly possible that money was the primary motivator, however, it’s possible they were looking for a real-life GTA experience…
What a sad waste of lives.
Not sad. The bad guys are dead. Their lives were worthless, so no waste. Call it poetic justice.
Hopefully the Police and victims all recover fully.
Feel sorry for the parents, can’t this twin find a job?
They were both early twenties.. I find it kind of SAD these kids fantasized themselves into a real hail of bullets. Its just not cool when two brothers that young, get themselves lifted off the street like that. I wonder how they got it in their heads to even try that. ???
This is a great question, and bigger question is, why did the RCMP show up with Guns Blazing?? I feel sad for the community, the Kids, the Parents, the cops I have little sympathy for…
@JDE Because the employees were not permitted to legally defend their own lives, even from bored rank amateurs. That’s why.
I was wondering the same thing: how did they think it was going to end?
Kudos to the brave police officers! Prayers for those recovering from their wounds right now.
Praying rarely helps. Doctors and nurses are what helps.
@Living_Matrix How often do you pray?
What a tragedy
It’s the RCMP… so it should only take about 10 years to complete the investigation!
Reportedly great work by brave policemen.Thankyou.
Itβs still kinda sad they were in such a low moral state they would do something like this.. two twin brothers with long lives ahead of them. Terrible and I feel so bad for the parents..
Why are their photos being shown when you don’t know the fate of the officers?
Their families deserve better.
Holy psychological dynamics behind this tragic happening.π
things only getting worse fullspectrumsurvival
“The motive behind the armed robbery and subsequent exchange of fire with police has not yet been determined”
I’m going out on a limb to suggest that money was the motive
Haha you’d think
This is so sad π
