I think it’s cool he stepped away from politics to do something that actually helps people. The cynic in me sees this as a future campaign ad.
Only a handful of cities allow tiny homes and most of them require that said homes remain on wheels. Cities are against allowing tiny homes because of their lower value [as compared to traditional homes] and by extension their lower tax rate. The zoning laws need to be changed or better yet removed for non commercial properties.
Where I use to live the only zoning rules governed industrial construction otherwise you could build a tiny home, traditional home or even a small hotel, shop, store or restaurant or any combination of these. Building permits were issued AFTER construction. It was a much freer system than any city but Dallas, TX in the US.
Want to fix the shortage of affordable housing? Start by changing zoning laws. I like Mayor Pete and it’s nice to see he’s interested in this issue but South Bend, IN has not allowed any tiny home communities to be built thus keeping people like these vets homeless. Another case of “all talk and no cattle.”
When the trump administration, like so many administrations before, neglect so many veterans, its good to see people are taking matters in their own hands and produce results.
But I wonder how many of these houses could have been built with the money trump blew for his 4th of July military vanity show?
When you decide to buy a house, do you downgrade what you want and use the extra money to buy mini homes for other people?
What, if anything, do you do for your fellow countrymen/women?

37,000 veterans are homeless because the American people allowed this to happen. If the American people really wanted to end homelessness, they would do it.
Most people will say, “Great idea BUT NOT IN MY BACK YARD!”
Because that’s the American way.
We all could do with little less useless living space. Two living rooms, really? By the way, tiny homes were brought to by progressive thinkers. Your welcome.
A percentage of the money made from selling weapons to other countries should go to building homes for vets.
