GOP Hides Behind Hysteria of Critical Race Theory on First Juneteenth
I don’t get why it’s called critical race theory.
Why isn’t it just called history?
@Connor Wilson Marx never once mentioned race. It never even crossed his mind except in his letters to Lincoln.

MLK entire movement and legacy was all about Critical Race Theory, and ending the institutional racism that racists are trying to pretend doesn’t exist. Much like neo-nazis and their denial of the holocaust.

The passage of this holiday will encourage the younger generations to “Google” or use Wikapedia.
Not just younger people.
It might cause present generations to use Wikipedia or a dictionary.
In Sweet Home, OR, during the 70s and 80s, they DID teach us the ugly truths about American history. I spoke with classmates at the time about it, I still remember forty years later about those conversations, about how uncomfortable we felt about the things that happened in our country to blacks (and other nationalities) Some of us DID have a bit of a ‘patriotic crisis’ within ourselves, because of the shame and horror we felt. But, we talked it thru between ourselves and with our teachers and we came out the other side, I believe, better people for the experience.
Most of my class mates had never interacted with black people before, in their entire lives, as there were none in our schools and the to the best I recall, only one black person lived in the entire town. (I was from Santa Monica originally, and hadn’t known racism until I moved to OR) But still, our teachers were good enough, and thorough enough, that for us kids, racism was a thing that was ‘nipped in the bud’ so to speak, from an early age onward.
I think calling it ‘Critical Race Theory’ and basing it on some book written by some scholar was a mistake. The term, in of itself, sounds….. I dunno…ugly? Complicated? Wrong? Why not just teach HISTORY? As we were taught? ALL of it, or as much as they can fit into the curriculum. There’s no harm in making young people uncomfortable sometimes. It makes them THINK. It creates EMPATHY. It teaches the upcoming generations that there are consequences to actions and as been said countless times, it teaches them to learn from history’s mistakes and wrongs. Putting a label on teaching HISTORY, distorts the message before it’s ever heard. And that label will always find people that take issue with the label itself, rather than what it represents.

What would you call it? It’s a critical examination of race and racism. It’s theory, as opposed to practice. Like legal theory, or physics theory. If you’ve got a better name, lets ear it.

When you claim any thing about an entire race of people you are racist, and when that thing paints those people as all having major character flaws, it’s race hate. Racism doesn’t stop being racism because of who you point it at cry is hate doctrine and evil
Honestly, I never heard about Juneteenth until just recently. I don’t remember hearing about it back in my school days, from 1969 to 1982 (elementary to high school) and city college (1982 to 1985). Well, we’re never too old to learn.
That is one of the points. Do you not agree??? The division is caused by not acknowledging the things that have happened. Bring them to the light. So we can all understand the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN and HOW. So we can move forward with the real knowledge, not continuing to invalidate INJUSTICE. Like we all have for decades and more.
If I had been a teen when my state passed a law barring teachers from discussing anything upsetting, I’d have been one of those wiseacre kids declaring chemistry was giving me mental anguish!
Juneteenth is being politized by the media
I never learned about Juneteenth or critical race theory either in high school or college (USC). Opposition to one or both of these topics will only hurt Republicans in 2022 and 2024 as more Democrats commit to voting against these awful people and their policies.
We gotta keep it moving, show them the money $$$$$$ Happy Juneteenth! Equity may take another decade or two, but the whole world knows what’s happening now.
