As a winter storm continued to hit Texas with record lows and leaving millions of people without power, some Republicans including Gov. Greg Abbott and Sen. Ted Cruz are blaming outages on green energy despite the state depending mostly on gas. The panel discusses. Aired on 02/17/2021.

Frozen Wind Turbines Only Party Responsible For Texas Power Outages | Morning Joe | MSNBC
there are wind farms in alberta, where it gets down to -40*… u dont see them breaking down…
@Piotr Trebisz US steel production is not what it once was. Our steel makers sat back and collected big profits while the Japanese and Germans built world class steel mills. Today America’s few steel mills produce specialty steels that compete with the similar mills out of Germany and not much else. One of those mills here in North Texas has been heading for that sort of process for more than two decades- but they put 15% of their profit into improved technique and new materials research every year. Very few American companies do half that. Your numbers are sound about the production of CO2- one of theirs was the smokestack emissions back in the ’90s. They have come a long way since then and look to be on a better path than most.
@frederic rike As far as I know the European Union also found new work for coal mining companies. Because we need more large scale energy storages they are funding the construction of underground pumped hydro-electric energy storages in flat terrains. This could be probably a good perspective for miners in America, too.
@frederic rike In total numbers America produces twice as much steel as Germany. It’s only half as much per capita because your population is 4 times as big. But nevertheless an industry in the USA big enough which could benefit from modern production methods.
@Piotr Trebisz Getting to zero means everything counts. I get it- I wish more people in the US did also. The percentage who get it is much lower in our “professional leadership”- both of our two parties take money from the same industries through the lobbying system we have. It’s all very corrupting but no one inside the system has much incentive to change it.
@frederic rike I hope that the last 5 years will make the Americans realize that abolishing this 2-party-system, which is responsible for this mess that grew since the 1990s, is a good thing. A new election system which gives 3rd & 4th parties a real chance to win seats in the parliament would have support across the entire spectrum I think.
Our supreme court has decided couple of years ago that our election system violates the constitution. In the upcoming local elections they are therefore testing a new system. My city has a parliament with 71 seats. We now have new ballots with 14 different parties and over 200 candidates on the party lists and we have 71 votes. We can put 71 crosses all over the ballot where we want. We can for example vote for a guy at the bottom of a party list and thus omit the prominent guys at the top of the list. And we can assign up to 3 votes to one candidate to express that we like him more than others.
It is a system in which we don’t just choose one of the many options but express how our prefered parliament would look like. Something similar should be possible for the USA, too.
Greg Abbott should be in prison.
don’t forget Rick Perry.
They can’t seem to get a blatant crook like Paxton in jail. Judges in Tx are more corrupt than the politicians…if that is possible.
How many Texans freeze this week because their Republican executives spend all their paid time campaigning and blaming others?
Governor, just go make an executive order on who can’t pee in a public bathroom, and, hopefully, some Iowa windfarmers will be kind enough to send help.
If a wind turbine froze you guys bought the cheap ones
Bob’s bargain basement turbines.
They seem to be working in Iowa and it was colder there.
@Eugenio Corpuz I’ll bet that because winter’s are always so warm In Texas they didn’t buy turbines that would withstand the cold. The people in charge should’ve spent the extra money, just in case.
In New Zealand our turbines get hit by the cold off Antarctica. They’ve never frozen.
Once again, intentionally causing division.

GOP will always fo that.
@Growth is Freedom United Earth Enterprise Yes, that and voter suppression.
THATS WHAT LIBERALS DO BEST. THEY CANT ADD, BUT DIVISION, EXPERTS.
Pfff then be frozen and United. If you can’t handle the truth because it causes division then don’t complain?
Sad. Well, they wanted energy independence… Now, they have it. So, they should stop complaining about their state’s own incompetence….. Right?🤷🏽♀️
@Patton Moore 16 year old girls are going out and getting their drivers license.. and your crying about 30 year old bubba that cant get off the coutch.. dont waist my time
@jeff mcgowan … 16 yr old girls pay more personal income tax than trump, so big deal… keep crying bigots…
@Patton Moore Actual question – why do we have to pretend to take Trump, his supporters and the TROLLS/BOTS seriously? The majority of them are not that bright! Check out their spelling… dead give away.
@jeff mcgowan lies and propaganda as usual by Republicans. Why does Norway not have problems like Texas?
@jeff mcgowan Loses Cruz has to blame someone other than the not so great state of Texas. Why do the turbines in Vermont not have these problems?
Texas needs to worry about Texas, and stop telling other states and Representatives what to do and say.
@Mr Mark It also was the reason they bought the cheapest equipment for their wind farms. Ironic how many “cold weather” states (Montana, Iowa, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Michigan, etc.), and countries (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Canada, etc.) have plenty of wind farms and are doing just fine.

Why don’t other states get out of Texas’s business?
@1mp0ster No one is imposing. It isn’t the fault of any other states. Texas sure seems anxious to point the finger at others (e.g. California), but sure doesn’t like it when others point out their shortcomings. Not to mention how Texas likes to brag and brag about how well they can manage their own affairs, and are now asking the U.S. Government for help.
You mean like NY, AOC and CA
Governing by gestures. You hit the nail on the head with that statement!
Trump and Republican party. “It wasn’t me!”.
Harris supported the blm riots
Lol. You know that song is going to immediately go thru everyone’s mind.
@Arcturion Blade Mr Loverman
The grid here in texas was built before trump. Quit blaming trump. He didnt build the grid.
If you think Trump and the GOP really opted to screw up texas’ power generation scheme, y’all been sipping too much cool aid!
Better not tell them about the massive wind farms in the North Sea. Average temperature -5°c
No, no…those are “socialist” wind farms. We need “murican” infrastructure. The kind that doesn’t work when you need it to because that’s what patriots do. 🙄 I really hope this serves as a wake up call for Texas and the rest of the country. Stupidity and ignorance has consequences, this is not a game.
the fact is they installed blades that are NOT designed for ice, they have no heaters built into them.

One word “green new deal” blamers.. DEREGULATIONS.
Blaming others only solves issue in Trump‘s world. Texas was „red“ for decades!
@frederic rike FINALLY someone who speaks truth. There is corruption on both sides. Not only do the most corrupt politicians need to go but also the ones sneaking by because they aren’t in the headlines. All the parties need a huge overhaul and new rules in place for qualifications.
@Not-Me Ghost I’m far from the only one- many appear to have given up, though. It took a long time for the many to really see where the voter apathy and declining candidate quality was headed. Still many don’t.
@frederic rike Good thing for people like us then. Maybe we can set an example.
@Not-Me Ghost I’m 70 years old and have been voting for these things all of my life. We are not much closer today to any of it than we are to putting an end to the endemic racism left over from our Civil War, over 155 years ago. An example sometimes needs to start with a good kick in the seat of the pants.
@Dustin the comparison would have been tasteless 10 years ago but now I can wholeheartedly agree with den Wolff
They could burn Greg Abbott to generate heat.
They could burn all Democrats, be out nothing for sure.
@Julie Casey That makes no sense whatsoever
@Grant Wallace Julie is just displaying the sparkling wit that QOP cultists are renown for.
@Grant Wallace makes as much sense as what you said about Abbot.
@Julie Casey Burning Abbott for fuel was funny & the humor wasn’t lost – except on you.
You could have suggested throwing in Ken Paxton. That would have been funny.
To suggest burning “All Democrats “ was kinda dumb of you.
Do you even realize who you’ve attacked?
(Yeah, when it’s bigoted it’s an attack)
– People of color, low income, blue & gold collar workers, families in both urban & rural populations, the military, single parents, families with same-gender-parents and energy field workers.
That’s not “nothing”.
Suburban “Karens” would have been funny too.
The GOPQ never misses an opportunity the spread lies.
They want dough and dont care what happens to my family in the cold and dark
They know the uneducated will ignorantly take them at their word because they don’t realize their word is worthless.

What lies? The green new deal eliminates all fossil fuels in 10’years. Every green energy producing machine failed during this storm. If 100% of fuel is green energy and 100% of it fails, then that means zero energy for anyone.
@1mp0ster you need to stop listening to fringe media. It’s rotting your brain.
The green new deal has never been passed and it never will be.
Green energy failed at a lower rate than coal, natural gas and nuclear. And they all failed because Texas didn’t winterize their wind turbines, and probably shouldn’t have because of the low probability of a storm like this. The other issue was the grid operation, which was not kept up. It is a state only grid and run poorly. The feds warned them 10 years ago to do more upkeep.
“Unstable idiots” just blames others and lies instead of taking responsibilities, not doing enough, and for in denial of the reality‼️
—- > Their goal is to remain in power to collect federal taxes not serve The People.
Ted Cruze gets $800, 000 per year from big oil.
@Mr Mark Only eight hundred grand? Cruz is a cheap date!
Nice!👌🏽 Tribalism FOREVER.
Continue voting for him😉😂

The headline should read “partly” not “party” makes a big difference.
And let us not forget that downtown was lit up like a Christmas tree, while residents didn’t get electricity
Just like the pandemic, blame someone else for your own incompetence.
Just like the pandemic, climate change, and losing the election!
Climate change is fake. I thought the Earth was getting warmer.
I’m freezing my a$$ off here in Texas…lol
As a parent can you imagine how these Senators are raising their children to lie and blame others not too be responsible for your actions!!
