Frozen DACA program leaves youngest brother in limbo while two older siblings benefitted | USA TODAY

Ten years after its introduction, a frozen DACA program leaves some immigrant children in legal limbo, unable to obtain protection and gain opportunities.

The Medina brothers came to the United States from Mexico with their parents at a young age. A key difference between them: Leo and Isai Medina were accepted into the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program. Carlos Medina was not.

As DACA turns 10 this week, the program boasts nearly 650,000 recipients and has paved paths to college degrees and better jobs for thousands of youths. DACA allows qualifying children of immigrants who were brought to the United States illegally protection from deportation, access to driver’s licenses and permission to legally work.

  1. Of all the things happening in the world….who cares. People need to understand that not everything can be cared about. It’s just simply not possible. Figure it out yourself and move on.

    1. @Joseph Richter enforce what laws , can you be specific or do you like saying crap that you think makes sense

    2. @PapiChulo well if you were unaware. We have this thing called a border it is what separates laws from one county to another. I.e the laws in Mexico don’t apply here and vice versa . We also have laws that layout the legal process for crossing said border. Every single country in the world has the same thing it’s not a new idea. Is it so crazy to ask that people knock on the door and introduce themselves and wait to be invited in.

    1. @Millie Mitchell aww millie and Michael they butt buddies , you guys like sharing the shower too or what lol

    1. They don’t have the generous welfare system the United States has. Why do you think women who are eight and nine months pregnant are making the journey to come here? Giving birth to an American is the golden ticket to get to stay in the United States and have full access to all these taxpayer funded welfare services. Unfortunately the United States has more than it’s share of poor people without having to import more poor people from other countries. The city of Baldwin Park, California has over 8000 applicants for Section 8 housing. Out of that number 5000 will be placed in a lottery for the few Section 8 units available.

  2. Good thing we all voted for Biden so he can fix this
Man I’m still very upset that people thought Biden was going to be a good choice

    1. Same crap when Americans runaway to mexico because they couldn’t make it in America even tho they are citizens with all the benefits they failed miserably now they have to bite their tongue n go to the place they talked so much crap about. And when they are there they aren’t facing racism like if you LeBron in Boston. They are welcomed , people are friendly and will help you out out of kindness n goodness from their hearts. They don’t know you or care if you got money or not they will look out for you unlike the society in the USA.

  3. Things will get better. This is the Best country on earth. The most welcoming. The most tolerant of religions and sexual identity. Welcoming all races. GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 🇺🇸
