Wildfires continue to tear through Australia, displacing more than 1 billion animals in one of the world's most unique ecosystems. Michael Mann, a distinguished professor of Atmospheric Science at Penn State University, tells Ali Velshi that unless humans stop "worsening the problem with fossil fuels," these fires will soon become common place around the globe. Aired on 01/10/20.

Expert Says Australia Fires Direct ‘Impact Of Human Caused Climate Change’ | The Last Word | MSNBC
“Apparently someone forgot to rake the forest floors in Australia.”
– Dotard
@Sonia Galindo Thanks for the laugh as well for being ignorant is the same root as ignore. You must be going senile or were never that intelligent in the first place. Enjoy your night as well
@pneumatictrousers Sorry you are embarrassing yourself in the social media world. Again, typical ignorant American.
@Sonia Galindo Sure thing bigot. Although your childish and nasty behavior don’t at all bother me. I’m used to trashy people online who are rude like you. Water off a ducks back. I’m off work and going out tonight so going to enjoy my evening either way. Best thing to do I figure is allow miserable people to be miserable.
@Sonia Galindo I aced logic which wasn’t easy and aced argumentation, and debate. Plus won forensics competitions. It was fun.
@pneumatictrousers You are absolutely no Greta Thunberg, a young lady who has Aspergers, and as a result is highly and unusually intelligent. So good luck with that sorry argument. 😆
The sign of things to come.
CleverPizza 23 dats not true dis fire may arise so that ppl will believe. I knw u will not believe this but Jesus does not exist y would he want dis to happen to his dear animals n his ppl just to prove that he’s comin? That is absolutely stupid. ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 very stupid of he. We’ll c who will save us from all of this to come. If you must knw man is the one who’s responsible for all of this trauma. We.
Avi rite
Avi right because they r not contributing to this outbreak everywhere.
yes—every wild clears land and allows for nature to continue it’s natural ecosystem course of destruction, renewal, replenishing, regrowth
Greetings from the continent on fire.
Yes, we need to get rid of ScoMo and all the other enablers ASAP.
Are you volunteering to fight the fire ?
@David Ferguson No, Dan–I’ve spoken to friends back in Queensland area and there’s hundreds arrested for arson. Once again the lying media is promoting their climate change agenda for nefarious purposes.
@David Ferguson And I wouldn’t be surprised if these arsonists were hired to promote the climate change agenda. They went too far and are destroying the ecosystem of a continent. It was never about the climate—only control, money and Agenda 21.
@Computer User So am I; I despise the Liars promoting it for nefarious purposes as well.
@zimtuff These fires are intentional as were the California fires. Residents of both were also banned for years from setting back fires (which makes no sense if the gov’t really cared about protecting the environment). This is all about money, power and control–specifically Agenda 21 and the Climate Change hoax (which used to be called “Global Warming” until it was disproven). Just like they said the ice caps would all melt by now, they’ve revised their lies again and are resorting to drastic measures like arson to promote their agenda. You might want to do real research and stop believing everything politicians tell you–the actual residents and those living it know the truth.
In the immortal words of Private James Frazer, “We’re doomed. Doomed!” ‘0o0’
Just to add to that in the words of Jack Jones ” Don’t panic… don’t panic”
game over man..GAME OVER!!
And C3PO
also, in the words of Bones, “He’s dead, Jim …”
Gets worse every year. 2030 is going to be a hellscape.
@SARA M What would be the normal rate?
@Jeremy Backup AGW cultists have been saying that for decades. No need to worry Chicken Little.
@Meg Don’t worry Chicken Little. The Earth is doing fine.
@dharma 3 THAT is the fake news. There’s been about 20-30 people arrested for arson/suspected bushfire related activities. That’s it.
95% of the fires (in NSW and VIC at least) were started by lightning.
aaron hey now, don’t call yourself that
Stop pretending we live in a democracy…..welcome to the age of Corporate Dictatorship.
Coldwynn Frost I always have a person take care of my business. And I speak up about it to others in line. I will not take a job away from anyone. And I do not use automated withdrawal or online banking either. Why should we do the work for those companies?
It wouldn’t be any Corporate Dictatorship if not for the stupid masses who elect the wrong leaders.Behind anybody in power are the people who support him.
We have democracy,we don’t have smart voters.
Late stage capitalism at its finest.
we can go far beyond our solar system and sending robots to other planets, yet we still cant stop effectively a raging wildfire
Did you see the size? Did you ever try to extinguish a burning house with a pipette?
Shin i think he meant that even though we tend to believe humans can almost fix everything. We can go to Mars we can cure some types of cancer and is really close to cure Alzheimer’s. There are things we can’t do. Mother Nature will always be stronger.
crzykoment true but think about it.They cant or they dont want??Something is behind all those.Someone might take advantages. There is always something
@alexjohnward The greens have never opposed burning off. It’s the people who want to live an idyllic lifestyle among the gumtrees and pressure their council not back burn that are the problem. There is no green controlled councils in Australia, so go check your facts. Environmentalist have long recognised back burns as useful for fire management and caring for forests. Blaming Greenies is just another climate denial trick.
On the plus side, we’ll eventually run out of forests to burn.
@mrs mucha ceo of not taking a joke
@ASeasonedWitch Actually, 3/4 of the photosynthesis occurs through ocean phytoplankton which are also suffering as they prefer colder waters. Losing the forests would certainly be bad and we don’t know the effect of losing that much photosynthesis would be but the whole trees are what replenishes our oxygen and forests are the lungs of the Earth schtick are more for emphasis to a public that for some reason seems to have an unreasonably low comprehension of science.
John Wang the root systems of trees hold the soil to the land and without the, the land becomes desert that can no longer harbour vegetation. See the Saharan rain forest.
@Brexit Refugee Yes, the root system is important, you’re not adding anything that I don’t know of. You should also consider that the root systems of trees are deep and hence draw water that are deep within the soil, other plants such as grass have comparatively shallow roots so the water rises through the soil through capillary action thereby bringing aqueous minerals such as salt to the surface increasing the salinity of the soil. I never said loosing trees or forests isn’t bad, I was being sarcastic but I’m sorry if the sarcasm went over your head.
May it rain heavily there. 🙁
Marshie Mellow it can’t. There’s little to no precipitation.
if there was rain it wouldnt be so fckn dry and they wouldnt have these fires, please…
@banna squeam :((
Marshie Mellow …. A big rain fall would result in devastating floods.
Let it rain softly and for the right length of time.
I’d like to see Morrison bring that lump of coal into parliament now!
I think he should take it to Cobargo
I would like Barney to go to Cobargo and tell them it’s all God’s plan to burn your home’s down and if they offer thoughts and prayers, god will fix it.
This breaks my heart!😭😭😭😭💔💔💔

We need to accept reality we will die and be burnt if we deny reality so accept it
This is man made like brazil. It’s all about more money, more investments. New soils available. You can’t imagine how dirty are company’s for a bit more money.
@Julian Santos
BTW, we can also live underground with geothermal power. We can get down about 2 km with comfort. We can use geo-powered heat/light lamps for plants.
@Julian Santos
The problem with overpopulation advocates is that they want to reduce someone else’s life, never their own. While those that don’t have a problem with overpopulation don’t want to reduce anyone’s life. The sad part is that the overpopulationists think they are the moral ones. Greatest evil always disguises itself in ultra-good, but smart people can always see them for who they really are.
@Zoe Phin Yes geothermal power is an interesting market. An immeasurable amount of geothermal energy resources are present deep within the earth’s subsurface. However, their exploitation is not feasible, owing to the immense heat and lack of proper technology.
You need highly advanced technologies and techniques for drilling at extremely high temperatures.
What i am concerned is, what are the business strategies accepted by leading players in the geothermal power region-wise market ? Is the geothermal power market possibility for long-term investment ? Are there risks and challenges involved in Geothermal Power suppliers? Time will tell us.
@Zoe Phin Yes it is true nonetheless we are overpopulated. By the end of the 21st century we have 50/50 chance we’ll still be here.
We’ve got a 5% chance of keeping temperature below 2 degrees this century. This is the challenge of our time.
What is driving us in this doomed path is the economy.
It’s all about growth, the young entrepreneurs let’s find.. we can’t have growth forever in a finite world.
Like Pogo said “l have seen the enemy and he is us “

when were people fire
@ziqazagababoopididzagiboobabdap ghost dad he means we are the ones we have to fight agaisnt because we are doing things.
I think that the majority of the people want to fix the damage. We have children who are going to inherit this earth. I am not an enemy. But I also have to survive.
We allways do the oposite of what makes sense in this world.
Why? I dont understand this. How are we going to explain this to our grandchildren?
Ken Tinman – humans are the only living creature in the universe that destroys its own habitat.
@Patty Donohue It’s mostly because of the greedy corrupt politicians and the most powerful people in the world. We normal people can still do things, so we’re also responsible of what’s happening. We should get educated to know how to treat our planet and its species better, and also defeat the greedy and corrupt politicians, governments and most powerful people. Those people unfortunately are responsible of 99% plus of what happen in the world. So please people, let’s get educated and defeat the bad and injustice that’s happening in our world.
It sure seems like it.
One Drone Pilot so true. The poor animals and the plants are the victims of humans wrong doings.
The time for action on The Climate Crisis was about 50 years ago.
Least it is getting better, have you seen pictures of Los Angeles 50 years ago?
The second best time is now.
I cry when i see this innocent animals like this.
@zimtuff thank you
@NXK Why think they are a child?
NXK so do you think kids are the only that have emotions? I mean we adults have too and more because have a more developed brain
Codecella me too.
Poor animals it breaks my heart 😔🥺😢
