The Chauvin conviction IS a victory. Granted, there are many battles yet to come. Some will result in victories, some in defeats. But let this victory lift us up. This is perhaps a pivotal moment which can point to the way forward. Pessimism has never won a war.

@Luke Monsensey I have a challenge for you, and this has been done by other whites who later wrote about it, one book published 50 years ago called “Black Like Me”. Get a professional make-up artist to physically transform you into a black man. Then just walk around for a couple of months doing what you normally do, and see what happens. If you have an interaction with a cop, which you most likely will, no hints to the cop are allowed about who you “really” are. There would probably be a book deal in it for you and you’d be set. If the idea of doing such a thing generates fear in you, be sure to ask yourself why.

It’s now up to the judge, who’s already prejudicial comments are all over the internet, already saying (before the verdict) that he would consider throwing the entire case out.
Yes, justice prevailed in this case, but will it prevail going forward? That question hangs over all of us. Hoping justice will prevail and change the status quo, so there will never be any doubt that actions like Chauvin’s are punishable by life in prison.
It’s our first chip away from the old standard police immunity policy.

There are police officers exactly like Chauvin in every police department all across the country. AG Garland needs to investigate every police department in every State.

Smaller towns are more likely to get away with these types of crimes because of smaller population leaves less opportunity for it be be caught on video.

I cant forget the words of a Chief of police who’s response to police brutality was a lack of raises and advancement in a difficult job .. No response or follow-up from media, no charges

@Randy Couch – A hero? You are demented. Changing had a long history of excessive force complaints before he finally killed someone.
Put me on the far left, then. I won’t go so far as to say this was a ‘defeat’ by any means, but it _was_ at least the bare minimum that we should expect from the justice system. That such a bare minimum feels like a major victory just shows how far we still have to go.
Chauvin had a stand off with the crowd, they told him to move off Mr Floyd but Chauvin looked up as to say You don’t tell me what I can do absolutely narcissistic behavior.
He forgot where he was, he thought he was taking a stroll around the park with his hands in his pockets

Exactly! Even with video some of those racist cops walk, but don’t give up…keep recording! For decades the police have been getting away with heinous crimes against blacks and other minorities under the guise of “I feared for my life,” well that crap doesn’t work anymore, if you are so afraid for your life then get a new job. Police have been lying about their interactions with minorities and it’s always the minorities fault, they resisted, they didn’t comply etc….now we get to see the truth.
Chauvin will be in good company when he gets to prison. He’ll have some of the capital rioters to keep him entertained.

Mr. Floyd’s murder and the conviction of a policeman for causing it is an enormous milestone in American justice that is long overdue. Everyone involved in documenting the crime, the prosecutors, and the jury all converged on the truth and THAT has shown that We the People know the difference between right and wrong. I am eternally grateful to all of them for doing their civic duties.
