Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole is calling for the government to decide whether Huawei should be banned from our 5G network, accusing the Chinese telecom giant of stealing the technology of the defunct Canadian firm Nortel.

WOW!
I seek salvation for the entity of Ra…. Have a great day…. Love All, Save All. Negativity Is the true virus on this Planet.
YASS, FINALLY!!
Wow. I didn’t see this coming. Is the CPC defending Canadians?
Who wouda thunk it?
Well the liberals are the party of big corporations
Big oil fired the Cons. LOL
Couple decades late with that accusation but better late than never. The CCP views Canada as an enemy and our leaders need to acknowledge that.
Every country is an enemy in China’s eyes. They want world control of trade.
Whereas Canada has been exploited and betrayed and ridiculed over and over for decades by its ‘longtimefriend’ u$a!
@Are Jay
Reality check:
China already control world trade.
Look around your home 🏡; most of your goods are made in China
We all know that to be true. That’s how the CCP gets its technology. The West should block all education, training, and corporate technology transfer. Enough of enabling the CCP to become a further detriment to world peace, security, and most importantly the health and welfare of our planet.
Hm ya I can be the NO.1 of the class by copying students who are behind me…pure logic…
They’re also the worst in the area of “climate change”. They have an insane carbon footprint.
They also eat dogs, disgusting commies, dog is man’s best friend, you don’t eat your best friend.
Here here! About time.
He’s probably right, stealing designs is a Chinese specialty. Canada should cut all ties with them but that won’t happen when Trudeau “admires their basic dictatorship”
He’s definitely right – Huawei’s rise lines up perfectly with Nortel’s fall, and back in 2004 Nortel’s cybersecurity officer conducted an investigation which found some 1400 documents of precious research that was stolen by China
Listen sir, I agree, and I have waited for this to be addressed. But, what is the Conservative position on Saudi Arabia et al.?
I’d sure vote for a government that refused to do business with immoral “nations”, and suffered the result no matter what while carving a new way to trade and innovate in the world.
One thing at a time hero
I personally think that China is an active threat to our freedoms, our democracy. Saudi Arabia simply isn’t and we are not Team America World Police.
@Ron Peer it was a question, and we arm the Saudi’s
@Unknowntyper well maybe you notice my dismay with the “but what abouts” Deal with the issue at hand and then move to the next one. There is no one solution that fits all so all you are doing is muddying the water. Maybe that is your intent
If the Liberals vote against this motion, I’ve lost all hope.
Only a moron (or a conservative) would want a trade war with China.
Shame on the inept PC in party.
I think the Bloc and NDP will back it.
This is what i like about the canadian government. We have all these parties raising legitimate concerns. I wouldnt vote for this guy in a million years, but I like that hes bringing attention to this without being a bigot.
Would you vote for the liberals again? Or NDP? They are in the CCP’s pocket…
@Jeffie Jeff’s Art yes. Policy wise, I like a lot of what he has done and intends to do. China is really difficult and will require a coalition of nations to deal with. There are Chinese bot accounts commenting on this very post right now most likely. I do realize his problems in terms of corruption, spending, and debt, and they are pretty bad . I wouldn’t trust him with a majority.
Try accusing the Liberals of stealing Canada and our rights and freedoms! No?? Guess the Cons are all in on the reset!
I hope O’Tool isn’t just all talk. What he says sounds powerful, so now we wait and see.
We should bring CANZUK on the table!
@Marcus Elizabeth nah
There they go again (exiled-Loyalists obsession): We-Business, We-Controversy, We-Destroy.
The Liberals don’t see crimes of their “friends” as crimes, look no further than SNC and WE.
Intellectual property are patented. Inside the patent, the full function is documented in detail. Inventor gets a 20 year period to have exclusive rights to the patent and afterwards the patent is opened to general public’s use. There are a couple of issues with this video regarding Huawei stealing technology: 1. Nortel sold off all of its patents so it’s claim that other companies stealing its IP is really hard to believe. 2. Patents can only be violated – you cannot and will never be able to steal a patent. You don’t need to steal patents because the papers on the patent is public. 3. Not all designs are patentable.
Nortel sold off all of its patents in 2011 to the 6 tech giants. So it has no intellectual property in its name. What is more, is that Nortel owns exclusively 4G patents. it does not have any 5 G patents in its name. certainly you can tell by the development date of 5 G network, there is no way Nortel could have developed any 5 G technology. What is more is that Huawei owns a lot of 5G patents, and that means 5G technology is published and reviewed by the patent office and considered different from previous patents.
Patents are published. I can look up specific patents regarding cosmetic additive and how they are used and what they are used for just like any tech company can look at how to design network receptors. What is more is that 5G is more of an engineering feat than a theoretical breakthrough. The whole signal compression technique is described by Fourier Transformation that you learn in 3rd year University Math/Stat courses. It is a long published mathematical formula from 1817 – long before humans start to threaten each other with nukes.
The key claim behind Nortel is that Chinese designs are similar to their product. Heck, all the car design look the same and have engines and transmissions and fuels in the same slots underneath the hood. We don’t see Toyota saying Ford stole their intellectual property for copying the Toyota car designs. With network routers and modern do you seriously think it is a threat because the cables go in the same location and they all look like rectangle boxes?
Couldn’t agree more. Go O’Toole! Hold the flame to Trudeau & et. al.
This is what a Prime Minister should sound like…
Haha, Little Trump, a hope for Canada, for Canadians.
Nortel and Ericson’s technology has been stolen for years. Both the physical equipment and the diagnostic software.
O’tool also blame china stool his mother virginity.
