@Susan Of course you are right. Most, but by no means all, Republican politicians in the Senate are hypocrites. While some may not approve of Trump behaving the way he does, they would certainly disapprove of Obama doing anything remotely nefarious, and act in what they believe to be a “righteous” way.
At the moment there is no chance that William Barr will investigate Trump and, according to Lyndsey Graham, the Republicans will not confirm a Biden AG unless they promise not to investigate Trump. The only real option is for Biden to install an “acting” AG who will be free to pursue Trump in the courts. Biden has said doesn’t want to spend time prosecuting Trump instead of trying to rebuild the nation, so nothing may actually happen.
Also, a real downside is that Biden pursuing Trump for his crimes could very easily lead to armed insurrection by those gun-loving militias that believe Trump is their god, and Biden might decide discretion is the better part of valor. He may believe there is a genuine chance of a new civil war and, if there is, Trump will no doubt waste no time in calling himself a “Wartime President” once again.
